Well, at least my travelling is spontaneous. I spent around a week in Newcastle and then I decided to come back to Sydney as I got a free ride from Rhys. He went to Good Vibrations (fatboyslim!!) so he dropped me off in Chatswood. Now im staying with Riccardo for one more night and tomorrow morning im off to Port Macquarie.
Newcastle was a nice little town, about the same size as Helsinki. Rhys' house was amazing and all the guys were really kind and helpful. They all work as fighter pilots and left to work early in the morning. I hoped that I would have woken up at the same time, but I had a comfortable bed to sleep in so...mostly I dozed off till ten or eleven o'clock. What a good way to see the city, eh? I did see quite a lot in the end. I borrowed Rhys' longboard and cruised around the city with my camera. Climbed up to see the obelisk, went window shopping at the mall and also for a good refreshing run on Bar beach! It was really windy, but quite warm - until the rain came. I got soaked because of the heavy rain..but I was grateful for it, because I knew that it would help to take the last of the bushfires around the country.
Rhys took me with him to Forster, too (how thoughtful of him!). He had his cousins birthday so we went there for the night. Before dinner we had a chance to go surfing with the dolphins - that was awesome !! even though obviously I've forgotten how to surf properly. The guys were really talented and it was good to watch them do their thing and listen to the odd noise the dolphins make.
For dinner I thought we were gonna hang out in a group of young guys and girls, but it was more like a family dinner -which shocked me a little, but I relaxed when I realised it reminded me of our family dinners in Finland. Everyone was having a good time, laughing and eating good food, drinking good wine. Thanks for the dinner, who ever paid it !!
We left early in the morning, because Rhys had to go to work. During the day I didnt do much, because it was raining so hard. I prepared my sightseeings for the next day and also plans for travelling up the coast. On friday I went to the Hunter Valley wineries for the whole day. It was a great experience and I even got a little tipsy after tasting so many good wines. It was good that we visited the smelly cheese shop and chocolateria to balance it out a bit. After visiting Lindemans, Peppertree, Hanging tree and several other wineries I only bought one bottle of really good red wine: Peppertree shiraz 2007. We drank it last night with Riccardo with our fabulous steak dinner. It was a good wine.
Saturday morning Rhys woke me up singing something like: its greeaat to be an aussiieee! Thanks. I jumped in the shower and thought Id go to the cafe next door to get my latte, so I wouldnt be too tired on the way to Sydney. Came out I didnt need to go, because Rhys read my mind and decided to be a LEGEND and get me my latte while I was in the shower. I told you he is an amazing guy.
Sydney is cold and grey now. Its raining quite a lot and the surf is choppy and a bit too crazy for me. I think I will go up the coast to the warmer weather and practise more and more in the cleaner surf. Hopefully I will also find a job in Brisbane for some weeks. Anyhow, I've still today in Sydney and Im going to meet Katri who came here, full of hope to get a good tan. I hate to break it to ya...most probably you wont be getting one. We'll just enjoy the good finnish chocolate she brought with her!!
