Had brekky in my hotel before meeting mum and dad at the station for our 1:40 min train ride to Ypres (or ieper) in north west Belgium. Mum wanted to see one of the biggest battlegrounds from WWI as some of uncles are buried there.
We arrived early and had a nice croque Monsieur in the warm sun. Eventually our tour guide turned up and we piled into the mini bus along with a backpacking Canadian couple and an older Irish couple. Our tour guide gen took us around the Ieper salient and we learned a great deal about the different battles that took place in and around Ieper during WWI. We visited many cemeteries and battle sites plus a museum at the end. The tour took more than four hours and then we it back on the train for a slow trip back.
Arriving at 7:30ish and with mum getting frantic for food we selected. Random restaurant and had a quick steak and chips (and beer). Mum and dad left for their hotel on the tram while I decided to walk the ling way home since it was still about 9pm.
