It was hard to get up early on race day because daylight saving had come in overnight, so we were trying to get up an hour earlier than usual. It wasn't even fully light before the sound of track preparation started.
It was also very cold, so we didn't get started as early as we might have liked to. Never mind.
Today the V8 Utes and the Porches were having a race before the main race, but the day started with the V8s doing their morning warm-up.
Brett and I wandered down to the merchandising area, because we had promised our daughter a T-shirt for a souvenir.
On the way we stopped at the NMRM again, the historic cars from the museum were lined up ready to go out on the track, so we got some close up photos of them. And Brett got to touch that Falcon again, he was so thrilled.
We didn't actually find a shirt for our daughter that we could agree on. The official merchandise seller had sold out of the 50th anniversary products and had a sign up saying that more was coming. Same sign they had up yesterday. We never did see those come in though.
We went into the pits to have some more of that good coffee. The morning's races had all ended by then and the entertainment just about to start. There were far more "Snog, Marry, Avoid" girls in the pits today. They cause the most annoying traffic jams when you are trying to get from point A to point B.
While we were in the pits we had another show by the Roulettes.
We turned to go up the hill to the Armor All bridge and found all the historic drivers lined up in Corvettes to do their parade. More photo ops. We were so close we got to hear some of their banter. Including Allan Moffatt chastising John Goss and Tony Longhurst for holding up the show (actually those two had just jumped out of their historic cars which they had been driving around the track)
After crossing the bridge we went back down to Murray's near where we had watched the Top Ten Shootout. From there we got to see more of the entertainment. Including that FA-18 again. That's 3 times now we have seen his show! More times than anyone else there, perhaps?
We watched the race start from Murrays and stayed there until the third safety car which was at about midday fake time. We went back down to the merchandising area to pick up a prize which Brett had won - a crappy Supercheap car mouse. I mean - a computer mouse in the shape of a car.
Back up to the van for lunch and a bit of TV race, then we went up to our little corner just before the chase. More photos of blurry cars. To watch them was quite amazing though.
Another walk down to Murrays to watch the finish with Steve. The end of the race was very exciting. Steve took off because he still hadn't seen the Legends museum. I persuaded Brett to jump the fence so we could cross the track and check out the compound where all but the first three cars had been parked.
We also walked around to the front straight. The crowd had almost dispersed by now and we took some more pictures.
Back to the motorhome park for dinner and an early night. There were a lot of parties going on around us, but a lot of people had already packed up and left. The campers next to us who had only arrived on Friday afternoon left during the race. Perhaps they were still a bit scared of the angry lady.
