Hey hey!
Just arrived in Bangkok, but felt i needed to blog on my scuba diving in Koh Tao!
Amazing times - did my open water course with SSI for seriously cheap with a great dive school! No problems with equalising which was such a relief - found that out the first day during the confined dive! Weird at first getting used to all the equipment and sorting my buoyancy but i perserved and it was soo worth it!
Decided to do my advanced course as well so i am now qualified to 30m, can do underwater navigation and a night dive without instructors now - just a divemaster or a buddy!
Had some amusing times underwater - kept losing my buddy, becky, who i have been travelling with for nearly a month now! During navigation our crazy but super experienced thai instructor matee b*****ed off and left us to our own devices, leaving me, becky and 2 trainee divemasters. One went off to plan out the dive site on his own, becky was underweight and floated up to the surface, meaning i had to join a fun dive and was down for twice as long as everyone else! Score! dubious on the safety front... though it certainly teaches you to be more independent underwater!
Easy to see how people get caught up on koh tao - seriously chilled vibe, everyone's diving, which becomes addictive pretty fast! Had to drag myself out, but planning on diving possibly in vietnam, cambodia and borneo, depending on how good the dive sites are!
Ciao for now - bangkok is calling!
