Hey - one of the last blogs now!
I only had a token 5 days in Bali, but i fell in love with Ubud - such a gorgeous village surrounded by green rice paddies, artist studios & handicraft markets. Spent a fabulous day buying silk scarves in the market for the family & got convinced by some cheeky, but cute indonesians to buy a 3 piece set of clay dishes covered in turquoise glass. They are seriously gorgeous, but weigh about 5 kg, so my hand luggage has seriously increased!
Ubud is hippy central & i found a fabulous place in the centre where i indulged in vitamin C, gigantic salads and amazing chocolate. Met a great Balienese guy who was seriously into yoga and the spiritual side of life! Had many interesting conversations with him & discovered he used to be a stockbroker in new york - plan B if my legal career fails?
I rented a motorbike the next day and headed out to Gunung Batur, Bali's active volcanoe, which had the most gorgeous views! Rode around Danau Batur, the nearby lake & dodged the police twice! They are sooo corrupt in Indonesia & try & exort money out of you for nothing so i wasn't having any of that! It was classic just to see their utter disbelief as a drove past!
Made it down to Besakih, the holiest temple in Bali, on the foot of Gunung Agung. Roamed around in the rain & then tried to manouvere my bike out of the mud, knocked over some randomer's bike, who tried to get money out of me, even though there were no scratches on it! So i said 'hasta la vista baby' and rocked off back to ubud! Mwahaha...
Decided i had to leave Ubud or i never would, so i went off to Sanur to catch some final rays on the beach. Definitely not the best of beaches in south east asia, but it was chilled & there was sun so i was happy!
Singapore next, then time to return to Londres :S
