Me, Jamie and Antony did a road trip from Adelaide to Alice Springs and got ourselves a campervan relocation deal. This was definitely an economically sensible option, as it was incredibly cheap and the company also contributes to fuel charges. I was debating whether to just write a 'road trip blog' somewhere else on the internet, but I've decided as I already have some followers on here, the way I am going to do it is just write in a fair bit of detail about each place we visited each day. At the end of each blog, I'll direct you to the next blog so the story will be continued. How organised and accommodating am I to all my followers eh? Some of it may in the present tense and some of it may be in the past tense, but it is not an academic piece of writing so it doesn't really matter. I will just try making it clear, informative, and entertaining as possible, as I try with all my blogs.
We did hours and hours and hours and hours of driving, which I think calculated to just over 2,800km at the end. I didn't drive any of the way due to not having a licence, but I had to stay awake all the time due to making sure either Jamie or Antony (whoever was driving at the time) didn't fall asleep at the wheel. When one was driving, the other was usually fast sleep in the back of the camper. As you can imagine, I had plenty of time on my hands, as my navigational skills weren't exactly needed, as it was just one long road after the other which seemed on multiple occasions to just never end. With plenty of time on my hands, I wrote a little diary day by day. I know more than most about the saying 'what goes on tour stays on tour', but the saying that applies here is 'What went on tour, going on this travel blog (well most of it). This is so for years to come I don't forget some of the exciting and at times nerve wracking experiences we went through. Sit tight, and come with me on a journey through the outback......
Antony fell asleep at the traffic lights (when they were green) for a split second around 20 minutes into the journey, so Jamie took over and did a good 6/7 hour stint out of Adelaide and into the Flinders Ranges. We were on our way, the journey had begun. We stopped off at a little town on the way for petrol, but with it being Sunday, it was closed. We had just enough to get to the next town of Hawker, and within 3 minutes of filling the petrol up, the sign in the window said 'closed. We were quite lucky there, and we were on our way for an extra hour or two. We would have to be slightly more organised with the petrol situation, or we could find this being a regular occurrence for the next few days. We thought we would wander up the road into a YHA hostel. It was nothing like the YHA's that were in Sydney, and for the reputation and credibility of YHA's, it was our opinion at the time and still is now, that they should discard this hostel (well campsite), as it just looked like a rubbish dump with a few kangaroos skipping on the grass. We took a few more pictures of us in the middle of no where alongside the camper with not a sole insight, this was still novelty to us.
We arrived at Wilpena Pound in the evening, and the objectives were to shower, watch the tennis final, have a drink, oh and the small matter of finding somewhere to safely put the camper for the night.
All our objectives were fulfilled, off to the next place we go (see William Creek blog)....
