Right, where did I leave you hanging in my essay on the Auckland blog?
So you want to know about Rotorua? "Rotorua has a nickname sulphur city due to its hydrogen sulphide emissions, which gives the city a "rotten eggs" smell". Regards Wikipedia.
We visited Rotorua where I had planned on staying for a day or two, but as it was raining and there wasn't much to do if you don't want to do activities such as Zorbing (rolling down the hill in a ball), and it also stunk, I decided to give it a swerve.
The weather brightened up and we went to Taupo, where the lake was very nice and hmm peaceful. Not going to be nosiey really is it? Unless you have a jet boat on it that is. It only took 5 minutes of entering the hostel and the receptionists were calling me by my first name all night. I must have just one of those faces haha.
We did the Tongariro crossing which our bus driver had made out was near impossible. This was just to scare the lazy ones I think. After the driver did his speech saying how difficult it was, some opted for a much easier stroll. I did it obviously, as the picture above shows. I had bought plenty of food the night before with an Irish couple, but they decided at the last minute not to do it, so that meant I was left carrying 10 slices of bread up a mountain which consisted of 3 packets of cheese and 700 grams of ham. At one point I was not at the back but not at the front, so I decided to wait for my mates near the back. I had a lie down on the grass banking halfway up a mountain and 30 minutes later I got woken up by some old lady from the States asking if I was ok? ha. Of course I was ok, I was that good at this mountain climbing lark, I chose to have a quick nap that was all.
We had a long drive to Wellington the day after doing the Tongariro crossing, where some people seemed to be aching. We stopped on the way and did some Gumboot throwing, which Jasper won. I should have won, I demanded a drug test, but nothing came about from my protest.
Next stop was the South Island
