We both slept for over 10 hours last night which showed how exhausted we were after the massive water fight yesterday. By the time we rolled out of bed it had gone well past 11am. Our fan was whirling in our room but you could feel the temperature ever increasing. Luckily for as our room window faces north so we never get the full force of the sun shining in.
Our first port of call was the cheap restaurant down the road for a spot of brunch! I had the rice soup and Laura a noodle dish which satisfied us along with the cheap price tag. Kratos had emailed earlier and said to meet at the bar we holed up in for the water fight yesterday. You could already tell by this point things had died down a lot as there were only a few people walking around with water guns. The backpacker street was pretty dead and the bars virtually empty, a far cry from the scenes yesterday. Kratos and the French girl showed up ten minutes later, the latter explaining she had a lot of work to do today (in the middle of a Phd thesis) so she excused herself and we said our farewells.
Laura, Kratos and I did a little wander around town enjoying the respite from the constant soaking... We could actually explore Chiang Mai. As the afternoon progressed however, the trucks filled with locals armed with water were starting to come out in force! Obviously everyone had been sleeping off their hangovers. The main area around the Tae Phra Gate was heaving with people, the foam machines and hoses were dousing the revellers as they danced away! The bass from the speakers was deafening so after a little while we made hasty exit and got out of the madness. We bought some beers from the seven-eleven (classy eh?) before sunning ourselves in a quite spot near a Wat. While sitting there Laura saw her nemesis from yesterday and shouted hey and pointed her fingers at her eyes and then at them to which they instantly recognised her and cracked up.
Later on we decided to go to our street for some food, we went to our local pool bar where Laura had the green curry and I some noodles, which was amazing! We decided on staying for happy hour beers..... then the water fight began.
The next three hours involved soaking tourists and locals as they walked past and starting battles with the bars next to us. The Irish couple from our first night here joined us, armed with pretty meaty water pistols, proper super soakers. By this point, the parties were in full swing and we continued on with the cheap beer. Everything died down around 5:30pm as this is when people started to get cold after being constantly wet all day! We both headed home for a welcome hot shower and clean clothes.
The evening was spent with our gang, chilling out, laughing and drinking. A few pool games were played and I was pleased to say I wiped the floor with everyone. At about 1am everyone drifted away with the Irish couple going on a trek tomorrow and Kratos heading to the mountain village of Pai (85 km north of Chiang Mai). Pai would be next our next destination on our travels and we would be a couple of days behind him!
