So I've done quite a bit since my last blog. I still had about another 2 weeks left in Melbourne and I kept on working hard, I felt I got quite good at door to door sales by the end of my time working for Aussie Farmers, I could push people into trying to service and could upsell too. There were obviously still some mean people on the doors, but you just walk away and smile sweetly and say "nevermind, have a nice evening" etc, even though you're thinking, you are a very rude person!
I went up the Rialto tower, which used to be the highest building in Melbourne, until they built the Eureka building, but nevertheless, the views from the Rialto were stunning. I went with a friend and we got to see the sun setting, which was just beautiful. I went to the Melbourne show, where there were big rides and also stalls for different companies, where they could sell some of their products. Aussie Farmers had a stand there and we got tyo try some of the products, which was nice seeing as we didn't really know what we were selling to people on the doors.
The day that Rosh Hashannah started (the Jewish New Year) I was working on the doors, as I did most days, and I came to a Jewish house. The woman on the door was happy to use the service, as she used to use it in the past but told me she was busy preparing food for the everning. She then asked if I wanted to join her and her family after work to go for dinner, they said they would take me back to my hostel too. As soon as I finished work, I went to their house and it was so nice to have a properly cooked meal, with kosher meat and being with a close family.
I went camping with work in my last weekend in Melbourne, that was fun, but very cold at night. We had to travel along the great ocean road to get there, which was gorgeous. Camping consisted of lots of alcohol and a bbq and sleeping in a tent with only a sleeping liner as I had sent home my sleeping bag, so it was a very cold night, but a lovely time anyway.
I left Melbourne on the Monday, quite sad to leave because it had been my home for the last 6 weeks and I had made some really good friends, I even got to see 3 people who I met on my South America trip, who I kept bumping into in New Zealand too, so that was cool.
I got onto the Oz experience bus and there were only 11 of us travelling to Sydney. There were 3 Swiss, 2 Germans, 1 English, 2 Belgians and 2 other people, but I can't think where they were from. We left Melbourne at 7am and stopped off at Wilsons Promontory National Park and went for a nice long walk there, it was very windy, but it didn't rain and we got to see wild kangaroos and emus too, that was really cool. We then went to Lakes Entrance where we got food and slept.
The next day we went to visit Snowy River Country, where they still had a bit of snow. I never though there would be snow in Australia, a bit naiive I think, but snowy season was nearly over, but some people had a snowball fight anyway. We then went to Jindabyne and we went for a walk along the lake and taught some people how to play pool that night as they had never played before.
Before arriving in Syndey, we went to Canberra, the capital of Australia, and we visited the parliament house, which is really modern as it was only built about 100 years ago and also a museum all about Australia. We arriving in Sydney at about 5pm and went for dinner at a place called "The Goon" where they had skooners (inbetween a pint and a half) for only $2, which is less that a pint, so I had quite a few of them.
The next day, one of te guys from my bus, Phil, and I went to the Botanic Gardens, Sydney Opera House and the Harbour bridge. We then got a ferry to to Manly beach, which was really hot and lovely, then we went to the infamous Bondi beach, which is known for good surfing. By the time we got there it was quite late and cold too, so we made our way back to the hostel. Yesterday we went to the sky tower, which was nice, not as good a view as from the one in Melbourne, but there was a simulator ride and also another show before we went up. That is all I have done so far, I am going to go and sit in the park today and enjoy the sunshine.
Hope all is well at home for you all, keep in touch and see as many of you as I can in about 3 weeks time.
Love Jen xxx
