I can see that internet is a very remote possibility on the journey. Last night I spent two hours searching for the www in the little village in Duma, eventually to find it at Hatim's sister's home at 11.00pm at night. Hatim, a young Duma boy with dreams of living in Britain has found the love of his life on facebook in sunny England.
I only had time to upload the blog and the internet is notoriously slow.
Habib's home is wonderful and he is an excellent host. His home has just been renovated with a British Embassy Grant to the Abraham's Path and this improvement made our stay even more comfortable.
After the traditional wonderful breakfast and the obligatory stop at the shop for water and bread - off we went. Our layers of warm clothes worn in case of rain and cold were slowly removed and eventually we were walking comfortably in our trekking clothes through the most incredible section of the path. I would say this section rivals some of the best trekking routes in the UK and Europe. The walk was out of this world. To be fair, a little difficult but not a problem for sure footed individuals. Who would ever believe we were walking in Palestine in the footsteps of Abraham with so much beauty and hope around us.
For me the special moment was a lady who without any reservation, and seeing we were buying our lunch, came out with a whole one and half little bottle of home made pickled olives and then again, very quickly some beautiful home made halloumi cheese. She, of course refused any money. She dropped the items and left. Iona left a little money on her doorstep.
We are walking on the path of the prophet Ibrahim/Abraham. His tests included generosity, giving and sharing. If he was the father of generosity then this lady is the personification of his gift to mankind. She did not ask us our religion or our nationality. She did not ask us about our political positioning. She did not see the colour of our skin or that we were mixed, men and women. She simply saw us as hungry travellers, guests. She is to be found in Mughair village between Duma and Kufr Malek, look for the lady who lives next door to the shop as you enter the village.
The walk was full of colour, flowers and blossom. The tortoises were very active. We must have come across at least 10 and then another 5 couples. We declared this place the Valley of Tortoises.
We are now in Kufr Malek at our third homestay listening to Abu Sufian play the flute and singing cultural folklore Palestinian chants. His flute is truly haunting and his singing is so poetic.
The first night we slept at Nahla and Abu Adam's home. (Our rating: 2 Trees) Nahla's home needs some improvements and I talked George about seeking some funds to help her.
Tonight we sleep in Heba's home (Our rating: 3 trees)
