HI ALL
On the 25th November i didnt really do much just relaxed in Bangkok and took it easy before the huge 40 day tour ahead.
In the evening i met with the group and we headed into town for a few beers, a good bunch of people so 40 days with them seems good.
26th we had an early start 7am and headed to the borfer to cross into Cambodia.
As soon as we crossed i noticed the differance straight away, Cambodia is allot poorer than Thiland with the average yearly pay being only 200 pounds.
The dirt track was lined with wooden houses and animals everywhere.
The dirt track nicknamed the dancing road, due to it being so rough and you are joulted about in the bus so much lasted for 4 hours. For the whole 4 hours there was nothing but Padi fields as far as the eye could see, its difficult to put into words.
We finally made it to Siem reap after 8 hours on the bus and headed out for a few beers.
27th we went to Angkor Archelogical Park, which is fanous for having 1 of the 7 wanders of the world in it Angkor Wat Temple.
This place was amazing a HUGE jungle with over 100 temples scattered around it.
We saw 3 of the.
Angkor Thom
Ta Prohm = famous for being in the tomb rader film
Angkor Wat = 1 of the 7 wanders of the world.
28th we headed to floating village called Tonie Sap where all the houses are on stils and there are no roads. We went swimming in the flooded forest and ate at a local house.
29th saw us head to Pen Island which we explored by bike. Here we went to a local school and spoke English to the local children..
30th was an experiance and a half. We went into the jungle and stayed with a local family in there house. There was no running water or electricity and the toilet, well by our standards was discusting.
1st became a bit more relaxed as we headed to Sihanoukville which is a beach resort with amazing beaches which was not what i expected from Cambodia. We relaxed fr the afternoon and got a little burnt we then hired some canoes went for a paddle and headed to the bar. I cant remember much after that.
2nd saw us take a boat trip to the islands of the coast where we snorkelled and relaxed in hamokes under straw huts, picture post card setting.
3rd was a free day. i lived it up and paid to use the facilities of a 4 star hotel, with private beach and amazing pool. Spent most the day by the pool occassionally getting and alcoholic beverage or 2...
4th Arrived in Phnom Penh which is the capital of Cambodia, total manic kaos. I had a look around the palace and along the river front. In the evening we some how manged to end up in a sex club needless to say we drank very quickly and left....
5th This was a real eye opening experiance we went to both the killing fields and S21. S21 used to be Tuol Sleng School untill Khmer Rouge regime turned it into a torture chamber to kill those who were educated or appossed the Angkor regime. Over 1/ 4 of cambodia population were killed here (1000 people per day) only 30 years ago. There are pictures very graphic ones of dead people and also those who were killed and did the killing. The killers were very young aged between 12 - 20 year of age and the methods of torture were harrandas. I did not take any picture of this place as its difficult to get across how awful this place was and how now its still a very sad depressing place. The killing field experiance can not be out into words, huge graves where 100s of people were buried in them, horrendas stories of babies being held by there feet and swung against trees to kill them.
