G'Day folks.
Last time I updated this I had just got back from the rugby..things took a turn for the worse later that evening. I went into the lounge at the hostel to find 6 pissed german guys, who promptly asked if I wanted some wine....and who am i to turn down free alcohol. So after a pint and a bit of wine we headed out into town, lead by a local kiwi, at 1:30am.
I was surprised to find that there were bars still open, only later did I learn that in NZ they never seem to close, seems like this is my sort of country.
We started off in a dingy rock/biker bar, with some guns and rose/van halen tribute band playing..needless to say they were awful, so after a quick pint we headed down to K road, which is one of the big bar areas of Auckland. By this time I was a little worse for wear so was lead by the kiwi and the germans to a number of gay bars along K road...was quite an experience.
By the time we got to the last bar, on Ponsonby Road, it was 4:30am and I was pretty much unconscious!! I had 2 final bottles of becks and headed back to the hostel....not sure what time I got in...but has to have been after 5.
Not a bad effort I thought for my second night in NZ!
Needless to say my plans to go to Waiheke on sunday were scuppered by the mother of all hangovers, didnt do a lot all day, just a lot of sleeping.
Monday I flew down to Palmy to meet up with Martin and Jane (Uncle and Aunt), was an uneventful flight apart from the fact that they dont scan your hand baggage on domestic flights..which freaked me out a little.
Martin was at the airport to meet me and he took me on the whistle stop tour of Palmerston North, its a nice enough place, has everything you would need in Provincial NZ, Also some great views of the mountains...apparently anyway as it was really cloudy yesterday.
Today I had a lazy morning and just had a walk down to the centre of Palmy...managed to get lost, which seemed impossible when its a grid system, but hey i managed it. Just had a hot chocolate and read the paper in a cafe near The Square.
Apologies as this update is a tad lacking in anything really exciting, I promise to try harder in the next few days!! Heading off to Wellington tomorrow, so should have plenty to write about thursday.
Thanks again for all the messages, really nice to know that people are reading this and it isnt just for my own benefit!!
Ta ta for now
:-)
