Today was a self appointed day off. Every evening this week I have done a few hours work, and having crashed out hard again last night I decided that I would have a quiet day at the hostel, without really doing anything. A slow down!
I got up, got dressed, and headed to the hostel roof. Its been over three weeks since I have been in Melbourne, and even now the view of the skyline from the rooftop of Melbourne Metro still takes my breath away. The roof is also a really great place to relax, with comfy couches and plugs to get laptops etc charged.
I spent almost all the day up there, enjoying the light breeze and the cool air, talking to people whilst watching a few tv shows on my laptop and simply unwinding.
Its interesting that when you spend time in hostels you come to see the best and the worst in people. For example - on only the second day of knowing him, Phillip offered to drive me to the local supermarket to get some shopping in, and he asked for nothing in return. A truely alturistic thing to do.
By the same token however, I have already heard about countless tales of thievery from various victims - where things like a hat, to an entire weeks worth of shopping, have been stolen. It is very interesting the diversity that you can get in a hostel.
This diversity allows you to meet not only people from Australia, but all over the world. I have made friends with a few Germans, Frenchman, Americans, Brits, Italians and many others and it can be very interesting hearing about all the different places these people came from.
Tomorrow is back to work (of sorts) as its time for another laundry day. Ian.
