I slept through my alarm this morning, and was awoken by a text message from my mother wishing me another good day. Melbourne was dull, grey and decidedly colder (15 degrees where it has been in the mid 30s) as I got up and got ready for this mornings Skype session with my aunt.
It was great to catch up with her and towards the end I got chatting with my cousin too. Last night and this morning I started for the first time to feel a little bit like missing home. When you are not actively doing things, your mind wanders and after having moved hostels again (and once again saying goodbye to various people I have met) I just felt a little homesick.
Its the first time since I have been out here that I have felt like this, and so I decided to spend a couple of hours chatting with my cousin and reminding myself of home for a little bit. With the rainy weather outside, I wasn't missing much of Melbourne. I am really glad I did this, because after 2 hours of chatting with CJ I was back to my optimistic self, and off out into the city once again.
I headed out to Jaspers for the first time in a while, eager to treat myself to a nice breakfast. Once again I cant recommend this resteraunt enough. The staff are fantastic and very welcoming, and the food is delicious. By the end of the meal I was back into loving Melbourne mode again, even though the weather had not picked up at all.
The nice part of the weather being cooler and duller is that it is much easier to breathe and at night, sleep. For the past few days the temperatures have been in the mid 20s during the night, and although when I'm tired I go out like a light, you do not wake up feeling anywhere near as refreshed (especially sleeping in dorms) as you do in normal temperatures. With the cooler temperatures you catch a break, and although I prefer overwhelming heat to freezing cold, the break to cooler temps was a very welcome one.
After heading back to the hostel I spent most of the evening working. I carried on right through till 12am, when I finally put down the laptop and crashed out.
