G'day!
Sorry about delay in blogging, we've been bus... lazy. So after about a week in Bondi we thought we would venture more into the city. We based ourselves in a place called Ultimo in a lovely hostel above a pub called royal wolseley hotel. Anyone reading this who aren't our Mums, we would recommend this place. It was clean, bright, airy, reasonably priced and close to everything. They also do $10 lunches.
The trek from Bondi to here was uncomfortable. Apparently we forget we had 30kg of luggage each and thought having sunburnt shoulders would be a doddle - wrong, That s*** hurts! Luggage dropped off, aloe vera (not for Nat - allergic) slapped on and we went for a nice strole to a town called Glebe.
GLEBE- Quite a scattered place but the main stretch is on Glebe Point road which is full of quirky cafes and places to eat. We walked the whole of it (grabbing a wrap from a deli en route) and had our lunch on Rozelle harbour. The people are really friendly here and all the off roads are filled with colourful old style houses but it just didn't have that 'feel' we'd previously got from Bondi, so we weren't sure if this was the place for us to base ourselves whilst in Sydney.
The evening was spent in Darling Harbour which is only a few mins walk from the accom. Great buzz about the place! Sooo many nice places to eat and drink and when the sun sets and the backdrop is lit, it looks amazing. Back at the room Ian had a nice catch up with his mum on the phone.
NEWTOWN - The following morning we were up, out and on our way to a a new town, which is appropriately named Newtown. We hopped off the bus and took a nice walk down the main street. It has some really cool shops and bars, but has much more of a city feel to it. We went into a great retro, vintage clothes shop, a cool art shop and sat in a couple of cafés and started work on our C.V's. Had another amazing toasted sandwich! After that sat in the sun with a couple of beers in a very nice rooftop bar.
We walked back to Ultimo, and that evening then headed back over to Darling Harbour to watch Brave at an open air cinema set up there. We then walked past a food court area and bought some take away thai food and ate it looking out at the harbour. Lovely food, lovely atmosphere.
The next morning/afternoon was spent in the library sorting C.V's and house searching. We had lunch at our hostel which was the first meal we've had out here that was just average. Then we went back to the internet café. After that we retired to our room, all worked out and watched Machine Gun Preacher in bed.
The following day consisted of much of the same. Internet café day applying for jobs and house searching. 5 hours straight. Very productive. To treat ourselves for our hard work we decided to venture out and explore somewhere new... ended up in Darling Harbour! At least once we arrived we didn't end up eating at same pla..... Oh wait, we did.
Ian even went further than that and chose EXACTLY the same meal. Was a great evening though. The street entertainers that Ian and Craig saw last time were there again...they were Brilliant! Back at the accom we ate Oreos and went to bed.
Next day involved another exhilarating trek with our luggage back to Bondi, luckily it wasn't as hot this time. Trying out the dorm situation to save a bit of money, its not that bad. Nat got to speak to her family on skype which was really cool :) We are now on the hunt for jobs and houseshares, stay tuned for the next installment.
