We took a coach ride from Cusco to Ollantaytambo where we visited the Sacred Valley. Some incredible scenery of the mountains and small villages dotted around.
We visited Caccacollo, one of these small villages of the Peruvian community. This is part of a project setup by GAP to support the community by allowing visitors to the village to look at and buy locally produced clothing.
We then went to see the Pisac ruins and markets where I bought some pan-pipes. Finally we finished with the Ollantaytambo ruins; a vast connection of steps overlooking the mountains all connected by small streams. This is a very typical Inca site where all the buildings have strong association and orientation to the sun. At the summit of one if the mountains overlooking the ruins is a rock shaped like the profile of a young king. By coincidence on the 21st June each year the sun rises just off the face of the king and casts light over the ruins. The ruins themselves have a very intricate layer of stone work displaying the expert craftsmanship of the Incas.
