Arrived in Pangkor at our private chalet. Beautiful beach 2 minutes down our little street, had some delish malay food!
3rd Jan - After our wierd breakfast buffet of rice, watermelon, sausage and egg we wandered down our lovely almost deserted beach, Monkey Bay.Found a nice spot to sunbathe & swim in the clear blue warm water. Later we walked to the next beach along and ate some reeeal good food again.
Next day we went on a little boat after our nice breakfast at the resort next door.Bouncey boat took us to 'Coral island' & we used our cheap snorkles we just bought. Saw loadsod little fishes and sea cucumbers, then decided to trek through the jungle un & over to the other side of the mini island to another beach. A couple of people practising fire dancing and banging tunes and a burger bar! we snorkelled more then got the boat back with a full speed smooth beach landing. That evening we decided to walk to the next beach along. On our way we saw Hornbills! (kind of like a toucan but with an extra horn) and we saw lots of monkeys! then got barked at in the dark road by savage sounding dogs. Realised that the 'hapenin' beach was not so hapenin - literally nobody there. So we hailed down a taxi to take us to town and ate at the only place that was open as it is aparntly a public holiday.
5th Jan - We decided today we would like to see some turtles but it took ages for hugh and laura to sort out the vietnam visa stuff. After that we asked the boat people if they could take us to a different island which is supposed to be the best one around, but it was really expensive either that or they didn't understand us. We will hopefully find somone to take us tomorro, for today we will sit on our local beach under a tree, and snorkle a little then we watched the sunset..aaah..
6th - Feeling like were running out of time in Pangkor we saw another beach further north on the map so we thought we'd check it out. Decided to walk because boat didn;t venture over there. Stocked up on food and water and trekked along the ride of the road through the jungle in the sweltering heat - it was so hot jenny was pouring water on her head.We were nearly at the beach then realised it was gated off, exclusive only for the pampered people int he resort inside! Luckily there were some trusty pink taxis by the gate. A lovely chinese man took us all around the island and would tell us about everything beside the road, even though his english wasn't too good he would just say things over and over again till we just nodded and agreed.. "CHICKEN HUT... CHICKEN HUT!" We went to a Hindu temple and put bindi marks on our foreheads - then showed us his scars on his back where he said he was tortured with hooks! i asked if he was a prisoner and it was his punishment and he said yes.. i then asked if it was religious and he said yes.. so it remains a mystery! He also took us to an amazing chinese temple which had the BIGGEST fish you have ever seen! it was from the amazon aparntly. There were loads of little mini chinese houses and and random shrines with insense and the mini great wall of china. We saw the dutch fort aswell, learnt about the dutch coming to pangkor to steal there tin.. Drove past lots of little fishing villiages and saw Pangkor resort across the water (the little island we wanted to go to) aparantly it is 400pound pernight! He took us through his home town on the way and we waved to all his family!
7th jan - last full day in a Pangkor, went to find somwhere to eat and everything was open!Turns out there holiday lasted the whole time we were there. We liked it better when it was quiet, the beach is a little more hectic now! Had another lovely meal in the evening and cocktails.
8th Jan - Leaving today! Feeling pretty emotional that we won't have jenny with us anymore :( will miss her loads. Got the ferry to Lumut then bus (which was like proper luxery compared to the bus we got before!) Stayed in the same hostel in Kuala Lumpur. Jen & laura couln't get to sleep as there was the LOUDEST ever snorer in our room, so we ended up sleeping in the store cupboard on 1 matress that the night worker usually sleeps on - they slept behind the reception desk! Hugh wsa up all night very poorly :( Noone really got much sleep.
9th jan - Flight to Hanoi - Vietnam at 6pm, jenny's flight is a few hours earlier so we waited at the airport with her. Had massages on some very wierd chair things, it squeezed you and wobbled you all over the place! Saying Bye to Jenny felt very surreal and that we should have been getting on the flight back home with her. Feel pretty ready to go home now. After thinking and talking about home alot with Jenny. AFter we checked in we realised our passport photos for our vietnam visa (we need to even get rhough customs) are in our big bags! noooo! after a couple of hours of stressfully trying to get our photos off the plane to get the photos we got them literally seconds before the plane started moving. Byebye malaysia!
