Hi Guys, we are in Mackay now after spending a couple of days with Chris and Julie and their little girly girl Jassy. What a delight she is, just like her mum and dad.
Charters towers is an interesting place about 90 mins inland from Townsville. It has a lot of history steeped in Gold and has the first exchange building in Australia. In the late 1800's it boasted 65 hotels, lots of people came to find their fortune. We stayed there over night with the horses that quickly figured out that I was a soft touch. They would sidle their way over every time we came out of the van hopingfor an apple or carrot. Pip and Carrie were not sure what they were looking at ( not that Carrie could see anything anyway). Even Hugh fell for the horse's charms after a little while. We did a little shopping, had a little look around, found a good coffee, and sat in a beautiful park before the trip to Townsville. Charters towers is definitely a place to have a better look around if time permitted.
What was obvious now that we are in FNQ is the change in scenery again. The landscape is greener, hillier and generally a lot more pleasant. When I do my share of the drivingit has been hard to keep my eyes open because the scenery is so bland but not so these last few days. The other thing that is kind of sad is the amount of road kill, lots of birds and kangaroos.
Getting to Townsville marks the 'turning right' on our trip. We have been going up, up, up and then across now down the east coast. Townsville has certainly changed since I was last there. Apart from our two best friends living there, it has blossomed a bit of a holiday feelwith all the cafes on the esplanade and the holiday units. Hugh and Chris did same matey bonding, they miss each other's friendship, and they caught a game of golf and shared a few beers and laughs. Jules and I are starting a new tradition and involving our new best friend MOET. Their little girl Jasmine is a beautiful little thing. She is a strawberry blonde with Angelina Jolie lips and big blue eyes. She has the sweetest personality and is mums best friend. Of course my mission has already started with her. I am teaching her to answer 'Cocktail time' to the question of 'What time is it'. Even though she is only 2, she is a quick learner and will be saying 'cocktail time' before too long.
So today was just a bit of travelling, we stopped at Bowen for some lunch and a great coffee, visited the beaches that are just spectacular and continued on to Mackay. Tomorrow we are putting the girls in a kennel for the day whilst we go to the Eungela National park and do some bush trekking.
Next stop Agnes Water. Speak to you soon. By guys xxxxx
