So i have reached Australia safe and sound!
It wasnt a particularly pleasent journey. Whilst Emirites is an amazing airline, had amazing meals and stars in the ceiling when they turn the lights out to sleep and loads of films i barely made use of any of those things as i was rather sick with sun stroke on my plane journey from Africa as i had stupidly not covered up enough on my last day in Zanzibar. It was horrid. Shaking, feeling sick, cold, massive headache, so tired. So i just slept the entire journey and couldnt even each my chocolate cake! Something was obviously wrong!
Anyways after 12 hours of sleep on the flights i felt alot better when i had arranged in Oz.
It is true what Rachel who i met in TZ told me, the culture shock really does hit you when you go back to the western world. I woke up on Monday morning monged about on the internet for a bit then decided to venture out into Sydney. It is funny because whilst in Africa i often thought how nice it will be to have a McD's internet that didnt take 20 minutes to load one page, to walk along the street and not have to talk to everyone, to be annoynomus. And it was amazing how when i got all of that back i realised it wasnt what i NEEDED it was what i WANTED. And now i didnt want it so much. I missed how strangers really cared about your day when they asked about it, how people had the time to get to know you, how everything was so vibrant with culture not just like home etc etc.
Dont get me wrong Sydney is a beautiful city one of the most beautiful i think i have been to but when i first arrived there i was overwhelmed by the busyness etc of it. I missed Africa so much! It really felt like the culture shock hit me when i went back to the western world. Sydney really is a beautiful city though it is very clean and it took me a few days but i really warmed to it.
I had my 'fun week' or whatever it was called in my first week. Did lots of 'fun' stuff. Went up the central tower for lunch got some amazing veiws. Did a Sydney harbour pub crawl on a boat very cool! Went to the aqaurium and bondi beach! Went to the zoo which surpriseingly enough is not as impressive after youve been to the serengeti. I also went to the blue mountains and saw the 3 sisters (see picture) which was pretty damn cool and an amazing work out walked up 1000 steps! Ouch the next day! And also went surfing which it turns out im s*** at but it was so much fun! I stood up a couple of times for a mili second. I looked mega uncool but i felt cool haha. And it was always nice to see what the eye candy the surfer beach had to offer. Ofcourse it was nothing compared to my Thomas but theres nothing wrong with a window shop ;). (I love you tommy:), sorry for the soppyness)
Anyways so now im in Port Macquarie. Met some lovely people along the way so far and hopefully that will carry on. I got here using the greyhound bus i have a pass that will take me to Cairns. I went on a bit of a wim didnt book a hostel or anything but i got very lucky and when i got off the bus was bombarded by people from hostels wanting me to stay there i picked the cheapest but it turns out the best (in my opinion), Port Macquarie backpackers i would recommended it to anyone. They say its a home away from home and you think aww how cheesy but it really felt like it! They had a job going but it was a minimum of 2 months but i was soooo tempted to apply.
But the journey must continue, the Nat adventure must go on! To Coffs Harbour i go!
