This settlement is from the 9th century - it was quite interesting to see...not sure the boys appreciated the significance of it. We walked 1km away from the settlement and saw the Basilica Velehrad. It is one of the most significant places of pilgrimage in Moravia. It was built in the late Romanesque style in 1240s. A part of the monastery is the Basilica of the Virgin Mary Assumption and SS. Cyril and Method. Current appearance of the monastery dates back to the turn of the 17th and 18th century, when a large Baroque reconstruction started. It is currently under restoration and we weren't allowed to take pictures inside - ugh! It was very hard for me. It was awe inspiring and so beautiful! The vatican is paying for the restoration beccause the new pope is supposed to be coming for a visit next year.
We had a fantastic BBQ back at the settlement. There was pork chops, beef, chicken, ribs and fish, salad and bread.
We are travelling with a fantastic bunch of people. We are having such a great time and it's only day one.
The drinking age here is 16 so the boys have gone to the bar around the corner to hoist a few...when in Uherske Hradiste....
