We decided to sleep in today and asked for a wake up call for 8AM. I woke up at 5:30 again but stayed in bed and was just falling back to sleep when someone went by with a cart full of bottles on the cobble stone or something and the noise went on for quite awhile...ugh! So when I did finally get up I almost felt hung over and I didn't even drink last night.
Went down for breakfast around 8:30 - they changed it up and had scrambled eggs today. They had some herbs in them and they were quite good. Everyone seems to be piling more and more vegetables and fruits on their plates, even the boys!
We all piled into the bus at 10 and hit the road to Vienna. We had to drive thru a small part of Slovakia to get to Austria. We had to stop at the Czech/Slovakia border and the bus driver had to pay a toll to got thru Slovakia. So we got to Vienna at 1:30.
We followed the tour guys to the church and then everyone went their separate ways. We decided to hang out with the Johnstone family. We went to a pizzeria for lunch. I had spinach pizza - yum! Gilles had chicken shnitzel and Matt had spaghetti. The food was wonderful but expensive.
We decided to head to the parliament first and it took us awhile to orient ourselves and when we finally got there (took quite awhile) they decided not to take the tour. We took the tram to the opera house and it had closed about 2o minutes earlier (4PM). Very disappointing. so we went to McDonalds - Matt really wanted to say he had a beer at McDonalds. We then went into a few stores, including Swarovski - holy cow - there were 3 floors of stuff. Matt bought himself a hooded jacket at H&M. Then Matt & I went inside the church - so beautiful and huge!
We were walking back to where we had to meet the bus looking for a place to eat and Gilles noticed a german sounding restaurant. He mentioned that he would really love some rouladen (sp?) and so we went in to check it out. We decided to eat there and holy cow the servings were huge and quite nicely priced. Gilles and Matt had lumberjack schnitzel - chicken schnitzel stuffed with peppers and ham and cheese, potatoes and salad. I had chicken brochette - the pieces of chicken were huge, with zucchini and peppers (woohoo veggies) and potatoes and salad and a garlic sauce. Yum! We got back to the bus with minutes to spare. We hit the road at 7:30, took a pit stop and got back to the hotel at 11. It is 12:12 right now and most of the parents are sitting out on the patio having beer and wine and talking and laughing.
We are so lucky to be travelling with such great people and everyone is getting along so well and we are having so much fun together. It is now 1AM and so I say děkuji vám a dobrou noc (thank you and good night in Czech)
Tomorrow we go see a castle - woohoo!
