Celebration times! This bottle of champagne has been gathering dust for about 18 months while waiting for a suitable event.
Last night was spent in a standard international chain hotel. Perfectly adequate, nothing special but hey it was simply a room for a night. The drive down was fun as expected thanks to a car which fogs up at the slightest sign of percipitation, humidity, light, dark, fog, snow, breathing and ordering of fast food (among other things like simply turning it on). It needs cold air blasted at all windows and the passenger window down (mmm chilly). Did I also mention that my car did that 'fake' starting sound and not catch which seriously freaked me out for a minute (visions of being stranded on the North Shore were abound).
After a lovely breakfast in Hamilton this morning (seriously, whoever came up with caramilising the banana in the maple syrup - brilliant!). Long drive the back way to Wellington. It took most of the day, in conjunction with de fogging the windscreen reguarly meant we arrived in Wellington at or about sundown.
At this point I would like to write an open letter to Wellington.....
Dear Wellington. Most of the time I love your charms. You are a lovely city, good food and bars and a fantastic vibe. However, your inner city parking sucks so much arse its not funny. A mention must be made of Tournament and their uselessness. Your charge of $12.50 for 52 minutes was ridiculous. Of course you didnt tell me of this until the ticket was provided and instead of providing me with 12 hours having paid for 12 hours (which is $12 plus .50c transaction fee) you gave me less than an hour. Oh and dont forget that you also lock the patrons in at 6.00pm Sat night and dont open the doors again until Monday morning. You are expected to "pay and dispay" however you cant buy a ticket for this length of time. So you are supposed to buy a 12 hour ticket (last until say 8am Sunday morning) and move your car out. But, dear tournament, my darling, you have locked me in. See the conundrum you have caused.
On the upside, just checked into the hotel early and paid them extra money to store my car till Monday.
Any way, I now have a bottle of champange to drink to celebrate the upcoming trip (and this trip, and life changes and Steve's "23rd" birthday (23 - yeah right)). Off to enjoy Wellington's night life shortly with Anna!!! Hello Alice Bar :)
