I rode a bike. Not an amazing feat mind you, but there were circumstances that made it a bit different from standard bike rides.
It was on the right hand side of the road. Dont ask me what the give way rules are in Amsterdam, I have no idea.
I have not ridden a bike since I was a child.
I was provided with a big girls bike rather than a little girls bike. As a result, tippie toes were needed when the bike came to a complete stop.
There are cars (who dont stop for you), trams (who stop for no one) and hundreds if local cyclists (who are competing for gold in the 'knock tourists over' team event).
I thought I was going to die.
Cobblestones provided an uneven surface, suicidal leaps into traffic, uncontrolled crossings and playing chicken with traffic.
I discovered later that Amsterdam is really pretty. It was hard to concentrate on the scenery while white knuckling handlebars and swearing constantly, and sometimes unintentionally.
So, biking around a foriegn city, tick.
The rest of my day was much more relaxed. I spent hours wandering around a flower market, antique flea market and streets lining the canals. Eating pancakes, soup etc.
It was the last dinner with our tour group and we ended the night on a cruise around the canals. Lovely. Only mildly drunken.
Next day is our last day on the bus and with our tour group. We are to make our way London (where I will spend the next week or so).
