Our full day in Athens meant we had a lot to see in a short space of time. First up, the Acropolis. It was a hot walk up the hill to the top. The view from the top meant you could see all the way out to the sea. The ruins on the Acropolis are mostly, well, ruins. Unfortuntely this also applied to the Parthenon which has suffered extensive damage. Its still a sight to behold though.
After wandering around the marble ruins, we visited the Museum at the base of the Arcopolis. It houses the remaining statues and reliefs from the structures.
As our visit to Athens was brief and it was too hot to walk long distances, we hopped on board a little train that takes on a loop of the main sights in the centre of Athens. We stopped off in Plaka for a wander around the shops and for icecream before another Greek feast of Tzatiki, pitta, olives, feta and tomatos. We had a very early ferry to catch the next morning to Santorini which necessitated an early night.
