As already stated, Prague reminds me of a gritty fairytale city (well the old town part of it). In the light if day it is just as pretty.
It was a late start due to the five story nightclub (biggest in Europe) I attended the night before. I eventually dragged myself out of bed and out of the hostel.
The first stop was the Astronomical clock in the town square. I had already seen it at night, but during the day on the hour funny little things happen. The skeleton rang its bell (always a reminder that time is moving us towards death), dancing figurines appears in windows, marionette type figures did a little jig and a man (real this time) was standing at the top of the tower in a jester type outfit playing a tune on the trumpet. It is not a spectacular sight, if you expecting something extraordinary and amazing you would be disappointed, it was understated cool and kind of dark. Fitting with my impression if Prague.
Kristen was going to join a 3 hour walking tour later which I decided to decline as I wanted to play in the Castle District, so we had a true Czech lunch before going sepatelt ways-half a duck with dumplings and sweet red cabbage. I have eaten alot of duck on this trip (poor Huey, Duey and Louisy, and their cousins) but no where more appropriate than in Prague, sitting on cobblestones in an old town square.
The Prague Castle was worth the trek across the Charles bridge and up a rather large hill. The view of the city from up high was breathtaking and I was able to go into the Basillica which was of, what I consider, a very gothic design with stunning stained glass windows.
