Prague is pretty. Like the brothers Grimm/feel like Pinochio should just wander into view pretty. Granted, thus far I have only seen the city at night, lit up in all its glory so the harsh light of day may expose more cracks in its facade. It is also certainly a gritty city. Walking down a cobblestone alley at 3am presents itself with an element of danger given some of the shady, almost medieval, characters present. There is the man with the dog and pet rat on the back of his neck (I hope its his pet). The beggers-some prostrate, others blatent in their demands for money with cap in hand, the pickpocketers (one of our group had her wallet stolen in a rather underhanded fashion and can tick off 'visiting a policestation' as a thing to do when visitin Prague-luckily there was minimal cash and two cards that were cancelled immediately and little else of value) and the, what I assume are, drug dealers/peddlers/scam artists in the squares who wait. There are also the British stag parties (as a result of large cups of beer costing a mere €1.5), leering travellers and some guy who thought it was okay to grab my ass in the nightclub (he disappeared quickly into the crowd). Yes I went out. To a five story nightclub. My feet hurt and my throat is sore from yelling over the music. The good thing about five floors is the different music in each. It was actually quite fun. One floor was playing a lot of 90s pop.
I also have a headache. Prague is known for its absinthe-the green fairy. I have, thus far, astained from the absinthe as the green fairy and I have a checkered history which should not be reinacted in Prague (maybe in Berlin or Amsterdam). My headache I feel is due to the vodka which they freepoured-it was strong. And the music that continues to reverbere in my head long after its external source ceased.
As a result, Im going to do the walking tour of Prague, including castles and hopefully crown jewels, later. I need more sleep first.
