On our way down to our last breakfast in Budapest I spied a policeman at reception. Thinking nothing of it (perhaps someone was reporting stolen possessions). During breakfast one of our group came up to the tour leader and advised her that a member of our group was being arrested.
This is a breakdown if the events. As these are all second and third hand bits if gossip there may be some inaccuracies.
1. He punched a taxi driver. This wouldnt surprise me as taxi drivers are notorious in Budapest for ripping people off.
2. He broke a window if a nearby salon. I can confirm this one as we walked past the window and saw the trademark smash of safety glass when someone has punched it-the epicentre and hole with cracks making a spiders web in the remaining part of the pane.
3. He was arrested naked.
So we are currently on man down. I have since heard other stories of events that occured in other cities which include full frontal nudity, using one's bed as a toilet, mugging, fighting and more full frontal nudity. Some people cannot handle alcohol.
However, the show must go on and the bus waits for no one.
It looks like its going to rain today. This will be the first day I have seen rain since Tokyo. We may escape it though as Vienna is supposed to be fine.
First stop was Schonbrunn Palace. The summer palace. Marie Antionette spent time there as a child and the palace in Versaille is modelled on this complex. We only had enough time to see part of the gardens and a rather grand fountain with Neptune taking pride of place.
We then drove around the ringroads in Vienna to see the sights. Kristen and I, along with about 12 other people, were going to a classical music concert tonight. So we got prettied up, worked out the metro system and made it to the concert hall. Dinner was in a room with chandeliers (always a sign of class), we ordered a lovely bottle of cab sav and the food was pretty good.
The concert itself was lovely and included many familar numbers (ie Blue Danube Waltz, that number by Mozart everyone knows, Strauss etc). A couple of pieces included an opera singer or dancers (ballet style). Overall, a very classy affair, I really enjoyed it. And I can tick "attend a concert of classical music at the home if classical music-Vienna".
