So yesterday was spent travelling all day and finally we got home and in the door at 10.15pm. Both spent today back at work so are finally able now to sit down and write our final thoughts.
Yesterday was a travelling day but we did manage to fit in a quick visit to one of the first British Military Cemetaries as well as Gold beach. Very moving to be there and to see the human effect of it all. From there we went up the coast to our ferry at Cherbourg- unfortunately we had to put the lid on the car for this bit as it was getting a little chilly- and realised that in 2 weeks driving it had only been up for the last 50 miles - not bad really. Our Ferry home was uneventful and Kathryn and the dogs were waiting on the quay to wave us in so we had to get the binoculars out to have a look.
Have absolutely loved the experience of our two weeks travelling although we have done quite a few miles: 1622 in total. We have also slept in 7 different beds and eaten countless lovely french meals. But the hightlight has had to be the wine! Our tasting notes pictures record most of it but the odd glass here and there escaped a picture. We have learnt a huge amount about wine and the proces of making it but the best comment of the holiday had to be: The only great wine there is is the wine you like to drink greatly. Here's to a few more glasses of Rioja, Minervois, Cote Rotie, Condrieu, Pommard and maybe even some Champigny!
Special thanks to Smooth Red for organising us and making this trip possible.
Blog - over and out.
