G'day people,
Its 1pm here in Aus this will be part one of two blogs I will be writing but the other one may appear tomorrow or the next day depending on how much time I have.
Got up veryyyyyyy early this morning to go on a Uluru Sunrise Anangu Tour (Anangu's are the local people who have lived here hundreds of years). The tour included getting up early... zzzzzz... in the freezing cold... as it gets very cold here at night and very hot during the day (extreme sides of the weather. Plus millions of flies and bugs!!!). I got on the small tour mini sorta bus van thing and then we drove to Uluru which was a few K's away from the Voyages resort. Watched the sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta in the background taking lots of pics. After that I had some brekkie and we went on a 1.5km walk with two Anangu people, a translator, the tour bus guy and about 17 other people. They told us the story of Liru and showed us how various tools etc were made. I would definitely recommend to anyone who comes out here to Uluru to go on one of their tours you learn loads about the culture and area. I tried on some head thing which a bowl shape thing goes on top (not like our bowls). I will put the picture on in a few days so you can see what I mean. Got the opportunity to try a piece of bushtucker and no worries it wasn't a grub. found out some interesting facts though:
- Uluru is 760 Million years old and when it rains there are 740 waterfalls which cascade off it.
- Its sandstone and is red because it oxidizes.
- 1 square kilometer of land in the area has more diversity than the whole of the UK and New Zealand put together!!!!
- 1 witchety grub has as much protein in it as 3 pieces of steak!!!! so anyone who wants protein there's your food.
- Eating 30 grubs over here is the equivalent of eating a whole cow!!! and the bonus is you can hold them all in one hand, which you can't with a cow.
I also found out that the grubs are very clean as they live in roots of trees and due to the extremes in temperature and conditions they remain sterile. This is compared to prawns which live in contaminated seas and eat rotting things.... as the man said its not thinking about what you eat but why you eat!!! still I don't think i'd exchange prawns for a grub but as they say don't knock it till you try it but this time I think I will give it a miss.
I didn't walk up Uluru as its not advisable (the track only has like one set of rails to hold onto n things and its sacred to the local Anangu people its their culture so its kind to respect their wishes. Plus it takes about 3 hours and in the heat ... I don't think so. Several people faint up there and fall off the rock so its rather dangerous too.
Anyways I will be putting some photos up today so have a look at the photos by accessing them through the corresponding tab. More will be placed up soon its getting the time to sift through them and to upload them.
I will try to write tomorrow as we have a morning with little to do. Well I am off to relax now and then go on the sunset tour this evening with AAT tours. Should be interesting and lots more photo opportunities.
Hope everyone is ok, don't forget to leave messages for me and those who are starting uni this week good luck to you etc... I think its this week.... going on holiday I forget the dates of everything until I actually look at my diary.
Lots of Love to you all Hols xx
