We both had emails aboutan interview in Wanaka, so we hired a car for the week, i started driving and drove all the way to Christchurch where mike took over and drove all the way to Wanaka, got really dark really quick and hardly passed any cars! Was so dark as we were driving through lots of mountains, we had a quick stop where we got out and looked at the millions of stars! Got to Wanaka about 8pm and nothing open, so yummy noodles for tea! Not happy!! (756 kms from Picton to Wanaka, about 470 miles)
While we were in Wanaka we went for a walk around the lake and went to puzzle world, where there was this huge maze and kept passing an old couple, luckily we beat them! Hehe, The interview wasn't successful, but an upside is that we're not cold all the time!!
We left Wanaka and headed to Queenstown, we we're upgrade when we got to our hostel, which is always a good start and it has really good vies of the remarkables (ski field in Queenstown) While we were in Queenstown we had a few ferg burgers (which are the best burgers in the world!!) we both tried the 'big Al' burger which contains ½ pound of beef, bacon, cheese, 2 eggs, beetroot, lettuce, tomato, red onion, relish and aioli!! i couldn't handle it but mike did!
When we wasn't eating ferg burgers (or really yummy wedges with cheese and bacon topping and sour cream and sweet chilli dip!) we had a nice time mooching around and using the hostel hot tub, which had the best views especially at sunset.
As we didn't wanta long drive back, we left Queenstown for Christchurch (which im not a fan off!) and just used as a stopover, we only stayed one night in a stinky hostel, that im sure used to be an old peoples home as had really big showers and a rail all the way round the hostel....
Next stop Kaikoura, stayed in a old hotel, which is now a hostel, really small town but very nice, and when the summer eventually gets here we'll be returning to swim with some dolphins (as some of us haven't done that yet!!)
Our drive from Kaikoura to Picton, was very scenic as its close to the coast, we stopped to look at some some seals although there wasn't very many, on the way back to the car this man said if we've got time to do the walk he just did as there was lots of seal pups! (at first i thought he's going to pinch our car or my bag, and theres going to be nothing there!!) so we did the walk and there was 100's of seal pups all playing in the water! So glad we went and had a look (and felt better when we got back to the car and it was still there!!)
Finally got back to Picton and returned our car :-(!! Had a night here as wanted yummy free chocolate pudding!
