Now were in Blenheim, this has been our home for the last two months! We're Evening and Weekend Managers at The Grapevine hostel, its very easy 'work', we take bookings and check people in and at the weekends we clean the hostel, and watch dvds and get paid, its great!
Had a weekend off all that hard work and we went to St Anaud, Which is close to rainbow ski field, where we spent a day, as it was my first time skiing i was really nervous, but got used to it, and hopefully we'll get to do some more skiing before the winter ends.
Its been a lot of sitting around, not a lot of pruning work available and have heard alot of bad things about the contractors (not paying minimum wage, not paying at all,) worked for a really nice man, who owns a small vineyard and has a had to take out half the hill to build his house (its a hard life for some...) The work we were doing was stripping the vines, the vines have already been pruned and all we have to do is pull the vines away, simple.... the vines are wrapped around two or three metal wires and you have to pull on them until there not connected which is ok until they come out sooner than you think and whack you in the face!
Now wereworking in a seed orchard, bagging flowers so they're able to pollinate the flowers and the flowers turns into pine cones, and in two years they pick the cones and sell the seeds inside the cone! Its not a very exciting job but its good money, so can't complain, although the people we are working with are old men, they move slow and miss flowers and then joke they should of put there glasses on, well yeah you should as your bagging branches and NOT flowers!! Agrhhhh,
Time has gone really fast since we've been here and we're able to save, so plan is to get a few more months work and hopefully we'll be able to fund the rest of our trip!
