Sunday 7th September - day 18
Xian - chengdu
We wake up at 4.20am for the train, 2 hours sleep and I'm resembling the walking dead. No packing or a shower done so we drag all the bags into the hall outside to pack so the others in the dorm don't murder us with all the noise.
It's pissing down when we leave and are drenched by the time we flag a taxi from the main road, at the train station by 5.30am so we get a McDonald's breakfast as nothing else is open and get on the train for 6.15ish. As usual we are stared at like aliens and when we get to the train, we're not in the same carrage and we've landed bottom bunks. There's someone lying in both our beds and the sheets look like someone's ate their dinner off it. There's also some suspicious damp stains.
We get the impostors out of our beds, flip the sheets and lie on one half of the duvet quilt so we're not touching the s***ty sheets. Not impressed one bit by the start to this journey.
People even perch on the end of your beds when your sleeping. I push the girl off mine with my feet. It's grim enough being stared at for 16 hours but the disregard for personal space and lack of courtesy is really pissing me off after just 2 hours sleep. That combined with someone having a f***ing electric shave, the Chinese music, someone watching a film on full volume, and the sound of grogging and cracking sunflower seeds for 16 hours is definitely going to see me explode at some point.
Snacks today are sultana breakfast biscuits, chilli peanuts a snickers and a s***ty pot noodle thing for later on. Mental note made to always ask for high bunks and try to get night trains, today Is torture.
We manage to watch 2 films which passes a decent amount of time and sleep the rest.
Train gets in at 11pm then we catch a taxi to the hostel (18rmb).
