Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
88km, 12-22 deg, cloudy with some sun, no rain. It was good to get a 7am brekkie and hit the road by 8am to beat the peak hour traffic. Europeans tend to start later than us, in the main, most shops don't open till 10am. Initially we planned to go via Dachau (Nazi concentration camp) today but after checking the profile (a lot of lumps) we decided to go further south. Nice to have technology to help us make these decisions. However it was 20 odd km longer. The ride out of Augsburg was fairly straight forward, albeit a little stoppie startie due to all the traffic light. As this wasn't a well-worn route for cycle tourers we had to cuff it. The signs were a bit scarce in places but we managed ok. Mornos was our normal, coffee and bun/donut/cake/bread roll. Lunch was in a park at Furstenfeldbruck of what we we had onboard with a drink from a nearby supermarket. Munich started about 17km out and didn't let up till we reached the hotel on the other side of the city. Unlike most big cities Munich has a fantastic bike-path system. But when it's busy, there's roadworks or building going on all over the shop, a million traffic lights and locals trying to get home from work on their bikes in a hurry you have the potential to lose it. But no one did and we all arrived with a smile on our faces; or was that a grimace? The lady at the checkin, obviously not German, got just about everything wrong that could be wrong, names, numbers, bike parking and her attitude was appalling. Eventually it was sorted out after much toing and froing. Very out of character for German hotel staff. Dinner was straight across the road at a great Italian place, Neptune. We all decided on an early night as we were a little tired.
