This morning we met the group for breakfast and were picked up from the hotel, we all headed off to the spice plantations. I wasn't expecting too much from this but it was really interesting we walked around a forest with our own spice boy guide. We looked at all different kinds of spices and fruits, some we sniffed, some we tasted straight off the plant (black pepper was particularly strong!!) and some kind of African lipstick from a bright red fruit that we had wiped on our faces in true war paint style. Pictures will follow! Our spice boy was continually making stuff carving different twigs and leaves into different things, we came away with banana leaf glasses, a necklace and ring. At the end of tour we all had awesome banana leaf hats made for us and we sat around an opening while we got to sample a wide variety of fruits- banana, different oranges, grapefruit, jack fruit, coconut etc etc all picked freshly, they were so fresh, sweet and juicy. We watched as a butterfly boy (the climber) climbed a massive palm tree to retrieve a coconut! He did this only with a thin rope looped around his feet for extra leverage. We all got to try the coconut water which I had never had before, it was good- nice and quite sweet but refreshing! After 3 hours in the forest we headed north to Nungwi beach resort! Heaven!! Absolute paradise, white sand, turquoise waters and our bungalow opened right up onto the beach where at high tide the waves lapped under our balcony. We had a couple of hours sunbathing before heading to a bar on the next beach along for sundowners and a few bites to eat. After some food and drinks we sat around a bonfire made up on the beach with a few more cocktails. Very funny night with the group of girls we've met on the tour as a few romances were developing within the tour group. We headed back to the resort and chilled out with a few of the others for a bit as we knew we had our first lie in the next morning!
The waves crashing against our bungalow kept me awake a bit but I won't complain too much about that!
