Ok, so where did I get to?? I had arrived in Cairns I think? Anyway, Cairns was a blast. Went on my overnight dive trip. We had to get on a small boat to go out to the bid boat that stays moored out at the reef. The water was really rough on the way out and quite a few people were sick, I was close to it but had taken some sea sickness pills in the morning so I was prepared! Arrived around lunch time on the big boat (Kangaroo Explorer), had a brief about the boat and got shown to our rooms, had a bit of lunch and then we were in the water right away. All the dives were awesome and I got very excited about the turtles, as you may be able to tell from the photos. Also got to do a night dive. Wes (dive guy on the boat) informed us that we had 2 kills each. Basically the Red Snappers follow your torch light and you can guide them to the small fish and then they eat them, it was good fun and I managed to get one kill. Didn't see any sharks though on the night dive but did get to see one in the day from a distance. Was a bit disappointed about that. Was also upset about being woken up at 5am the next morning to start diving - before breakfast!!! Can u believe it? They wake us up at the crack of dawn and make you dive without even a cup of tea! My last dive was wicked, I paid for a guide to come with me and it was just the 2 of us. This is when I found the tiny black sea slug that I have photos of, but we were gone for 1 hour and 8 mins. When we got back to the boat they thought we had gotten lost as everyone else had been back for half an hour! It's so cool that I don't use much air, get to do really long dives, wish I was a fish! So I have put lots of pics in that section because I wanted people to see what I saw and maybe understand why I love it so much. Some of the pics are ones that I took with the camera I hired, others are ones I found on the net cos mine weren't very clear, so in other words, I didn't take any of the good ones
Sarahs Dad flew back to Sydney on the 13th so we lost our road trip buddy. Was good fun having him around. Me and Sevo carried on up the coast for a while, visiting Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation. We missed Matthew Mcconaughey by about a week, he had been in Port Douglas filming his new movie - how gutted were we!! Stayed there a few nights and just went to the beach and also to the Sheraton Resort to use their 5 acre lagoon, was absolutely gorgeous. We weren't supposed to be there as it is for guests only, but we snuck in off the beach and no one bothered to ask us if we were guests, we even had a guy on a golf buggy come over and ask us if we wanted anything to eat or drink, hee hee.
We then headed up to Cape trib for a couple of nights. The hostel we stayed in was right in the middle of the rainforest and miles away from civilisation. The bar only stayed open til 10pm, can u believe it? Theres not much to do there apart from walk around the countryside and go Croc and Cassowary watching, which is what we did, went to a waterhole, then walked along a creek looking for Crocs and back along Myall Beach, which was absolutely stunning. Didn't get to see either a Croc or a Cassowary, so we were very upset about that.
We then went back to Cairns for a couple of nights and went for a ride on the Skyrail to Kuranda. The skyrail is 7.5km long and you hover metres above the rainforest, some awesome views of the forest and also of Barron Gorge National Park. There is 2 stops on the way up where you can get off and go on a boardwalk through the forest, which was cool. The Village itself was very picturesque but totally over run by the tourist trade, every other shop was a souvenir shop. Forgot our camera that day so we had to buy a disposable so I will get them put on to CD when I get the chance.
We are now in Bondi and the hostel we are stayin in is a bit poo, so I have been feeling a bit down today, I might even go as far to say I was homesick! Don't faint Mum!XX Anyway, we have just been food shopping for xmas dinner, we've got Kangaroo steaks, Chicken kebabs, coleslaw, chocolate and crisps and dip, sounds yummy doesn't it. Planning on going to a park and having a good old Aussie Barbie!
Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and happy New Year, I will be thinking of you all sat around your christmas tree and eating lovely roast dinners. I will update you in the New Year about my celebrations. Love to you all x x x x
