So arrived in Airlie Beach on the Sunday afternoon and checked into Magnums Backpackers. The hostel is set in a forest area behind a huge pub/nightclub! Woo hoo! We stayed in a dorm the first night. Went out for a drink in the next backpackers and bumped into Tony who we met on Fraser Island, he was absolutley wasted so that was quite funny, watching him make a fool of himself. Checked into my own room the next day as I was going to be on my own for 2 nights I wanted some me time. Dropped off Sevo (Sarah's new nickname) and Pops (this is what we call Sarahs Dad now by the way) at the harbour in the afternoon, then headed back and went and sat by the lagoon (huge swimming pools by the sea) and read my book for the afternoon. Then in the evening I had a Thai takeaway and listened to my music on my balcony, very boring but was so nice just to chill out on my own for a change. The following night I braved the bar on my lonesome and got chatting to some guys who work behind the bar at the hostel but had the night off. So I got a few free drinks and then invited to the VIP section of the nightclub to watch the wet t-shirt competition!!!! Not really my sort of thing but it was so funny watching all the drunken girls parade around topless! They didn't even keep their t-shirts on, it might as well have been called a topless dancing competition. Winner did get $500 though, so fair play to her!
Next day Sevo and Pops returned and we went out in the evening for a meal with the people they had met on the Sailing trip. Following day left for Mission Beach, took us 7 hours to get there, so I think that was our longest leg of the trip. Stayed at Mission Beach Backpackers Lodge. Such a cool place. The 2 Daves who run it have only been there 4 weeks so they are pretty relaxed about everything. Stayed there 2 nights, had a go on a digeridoo, people played guitars and the bongos and we all played cards games, just what we needed before coming to Cairns. I also got to take the dog, Zack, for a walk on the beach.
So we are now in Cairns. I have booked my liveaboard for monday, just going for one night but, I get to do 6 dives and I think one of them will be a night dive. Very excited about that. Sevo is not coming though as she has not and does not want to conquer her fear of sharks, so I will be on my lonesome again. So I'm going to sign off for now, will update you on the diving when I get back.
