This morning started wet, so after brekkie I implemented Plan B and drove to Stromness to have a look at the Stromness Museum. It's quite small but packed with lots of stuff. Stromness itself is a little unusual. Like many old towns, its main street is fairly narrow with many bends - however two-way traffic is still permitted. Today was very very wet, so I headed to the capital city of Orkney - Kirkwall. Having parked for the very reasonable rate of £1.50 for 8 hours, I made for the offices of Orkney Ferries to book a couple of excursions for the week. Today was another day of gorgeous sunshine, but accompanied by high winds with gusts of over 40mph. Therefore, after a delicious breakfast, I decided to head for an exposed hillside! Wideford Hill, just outside the capital of Kirkwall, is home to another Neolithic Cairn (there are lots here). Today I finally got to Orkney, and the sun shone all day - I had to break out the suncream! Yesterday's excursions on Cape Wrath must've taken it out on me as I slept for a full 8 hours!
