An early morning arrival in Kolkata, a repaid taxi journey to the backpacker area, being declined at every hotel because I looked Indian, two lovely cups of chai and numerous requests from a rickshaw puller to take me to see the sights later, I managed to check into a dormitory!
My attempt at speaking Hindi was back in action!
My time in Kolkata gave me the opportunity to get in contact with NGO’s (Non Government Organisation) in Nepal and arrange for my Nepalese visa. I managed to escape the mid day sun in shopping malls and cinemas, with other days just having a siesta.
After the taster of the kati roll in Cochin at Dahl/Bhat, I was in the home of kati rolls! You can have a combination of fillings in these rolls, having opted for an egg and chicken roll and double mutton roll washed down with a bottle of cold Thumbs Up! (Yes, in one serving, I am a little piggy!)
Volunteering work at a homestay teaching three adopted orphaned girls had been lined up and was awaiting approval on my arrival in Kathmandu. An overnight train to the border town of Raxaul, cross the Indian/Nepal border and a six hour to a day mini bus ride what was to be endured to get to Kathmandu…
