Well the tour is over and I am now back in Rio. Let me update you on the jungle....
Our tour guide who seems to be on a different planet had bodged up all our transport arrangments therefore we entered and arrived in the jungle via mini-bus. I doubt the mini-bus would have survived the journey back to Bonito. We arived and claimed our hammocks which were in a typ of shed but without sides, it was late so we had some dinner and then headed off to bed. Before bed I needed to toilet and I had to go into a toilet that was covered in spiders, c*** roaches, bugs, mosquitos - my worst nightmare!!! The nights were so cold and the hammock was just not something that I could sleep in. There were aligators everywhere you looked and we saw a giant ant-eater, giant river otters, water pigs, storks, hawks, vultures, macaws, cranes, pyranas and every other animal you could imagine....... .... .... ... .. . .
I went horse riding and because I am not overly keen on horses I asked for a slower one - I didnt mean one that was half dead! It was so slow and I was soaking wet from swampy water - Another thing I didnt like! I also went pyrana fishing was was really fun and quite dangerous I thought but what the hell - We had Pyrana for tea (a salty fish that was not that great really!). Most of all I hated the bugs - even in the airport on the way back yesterday I put my rucksack on the floor and a massive cockroach crawled out - the poor person in the queue behind me had to kill it!!!!
Our flights from Campo grande to Sao Paulo were severley delayed and we sat there for hours, evetnually the plane journey was ok and we arrived to absolute kaos at Sao paulo. I asked everyone I could what was going on but either they didnt know or I couldnt understand in portugese. We got on the flight and it was only meant to take 30 minutes - we had almost landed (we must have been no more than 2 metres off the tarmac) when suddenly the plane lifted up again and went straight up. It was well scary and I thought it was probably because we had over shot the run way or something (runways in south america are half the size, if not smaller than the ones in England. There is no security as such, you can take pen knives on and acetone for removing nail varnish - they really are not bothered, providing you dont take on an AK47!). We spent ages circling very low and finally we arived back into Rio. We were so tired and we went straight to the hotel. It was only this morning that Kerry explains that she and the group had decided not to tell me there had been a plane crash at the airport we were going to - an accident because of bad weather, short runways, bad tarmac and the fact that every airport seems to be in the middle of the city centre!
Anyway best go.. Now moving to a hostel..... Bye!
