Well, Rio is brilliant!
We arrived on the 6th July and got to our hotel in Copacabana. There was lots of high rise flats and our hotel was "like living in an old fashioned tea cup" - Kerry. We went straight to sleep after a crappy and long bus ride from Sao Paulo.
Next day was the 07.07.07! We wandered around Copacabana and found the beach. The beach is amazing! White Sand, Warm Sea and every local wearing as little as possible! (Old women in thongs and lady boys in bikinis!). We could then see a massive stage - LIVE EARTH. What good timing! The concert started at 4pm and was full of performers that I had never heard. The whole crowd sang along and me and Kerry had no clue what the portugese words were!!! We watched Lenny Kravitz and people however they were a bit crap. Pharrell Williams (american rapper) played which can be described as amusing as he could not speak Portugese and was telling the crowd to jump - the crowd didnt move just watched him wondering what he was doing and saying!!!!! We watched lots of highlights from Wembley - it looked really good. The Brazillians love to party - as soon as the music started they got the beers out and were jumping around!
Next day we had our welcome meeting for the tour. We wondered to the beach and had some lunch. We were picked up at the hotel and were taken to see 'christ the reedeemor' - the big statue on the hill - what is all the pictures of Rio. It was so high up and there was a glass elevator and 2 escalators and that was from the top! That ws a bit scary however it reminded me of Disney parks in Florida . The statue is not as big as I expected but there were lots of people up there - massively crowded - the statue had just been named as one of the new wonders of the world!!!!! Lots of helicopters hovvering about and lots of media.
We went back to the hotel and we had tea with the rest of the group. We then headed to a favela party. For those of you who dont know (Mum and Dad) favelas are slum areas where the poor people live. They are run by 3 rival drug lords/gangs. There is lots of guns etc etc etc..... The bloke driving our mini bus there was trying to kill us I think as we sped through the city at about 70mph over taking policia!!!
We arrived and it was a massive warehouse full of every type of person and extremely loud jungle type music playing. The floors were soaked with beer and water and not a single boy/bloke wore a shirt! The women just gyrated like Beyonce all night to the music and the male species searched all night for anyone who would take them or just anyone who had a pulse. There were loads of lady-boys - no body in their right minds would wear those outfits and no women could be that tall. They are very forward in brazil. You dont have to speak to someone before they shove their tongue in your mouth - me and Kerry resorted to spending ll night looking at the dirty floor and avoiding all eye contact!!!!! It was laughable. Some of our group were very glad they had their jabs before they left home!!! It got to 3,30am and me and kerry were bored, the music was crap and we went back to the hotel. I think it was the dodgiest night of my life!!!!!!!!
