Up a little later this am...... Not used to all this social life and late nights....both feeling a little 'hungover' this am. Going to skip the boring hotel breaky today and off to find a sidewalk cafe for brunch........then off to The Louvre this pm.
Might I say it may be an advantage in this country to be on the Gluten Free diet.......they certainly don't cater for it, and I would devour so many pastries, cakes and bread here......wow the creme caramels and macaroons are scrummy!!
Just sitting on a park bench at the base of the Eiffel Tower 'soaking up' the moment......just saw an unnerving site, 3 army guys wandering around with machine guns at the ready! Thought we would high tail it out of there.
Heck, just been approached by a gypsy again......they are everywhere!
Just managed to complete the paperwork for the money theft and faxed it off.....very hard with no computer or printer at hand......fingers crossed.
Don't think we have ever seen so many coaches in a city before, more coaches than cars I think.......especially in the carpark at The Louvre, huge underground carpark, one floor for coaches alone. Next floor up a huge new glossy shopping centre built underground. Unfortunately for me the exhaust fumes were very bad on that floor....one huge headache coming up.
Our Louvre guide 'Vincent' (no relation to Van Gough) was pretty average, unfortunately for him there were a couple of obese people on our tour and he had to keep ushering them to a small very slow lift....not very disabled friendly!
Had a very quick tour of the Louvre....saw the most famous parts I guess.....Mona Lisa, Venus De Milo, heaps of paintings and Roman statues....would loved more time but that is what happens on the whirlwind tours I guess.
Drove through the tunnel where poor Diana lost her life....sad.
It's amazing how much of my high school French comes back when you are here and see it in print again after all those years.
Montmartre......On the hill over looking Paris.....how magical....
Went in the coach as far as possible, then by a cute little'train'(not unlike the train at Pacific Fair), to they summit of the hill overlooking Paris, to the home of the artists in Paris.....passing the cemetary where many are buried.....the crypts are all above ground.
Renior, Van Gough, Picasso all lived and worked from here...... We had dinner in a restaurant 'La Bonne Franquette' where Van Gough painted 'La Guinguette'.....and also drank 75% proof alcohol.....a nutter!
Great food.....Roger had genuine french speciality 'escagot'..... He loved them.
I had beef bourg?????? (burgandy), and fromage of course......boy the French really love their cheese.
Wandered around the 1000 yr old village.....very quaint. Came home via the 'Funiculaire' - cable car. Happened across fight between some coloured and whites.....our tour guide warned us not to look at them and don't take photos......of course we obeyed!
Back safely to the hotel by Coach, taking in Paris by night........
Looking forward to watching 'Midnight in Paris' once more.....might mean a lot more now.
What an amazing city!! Magical!!
Roger's added thoughts on the day......
I'm going into business here in Paris.....going to set up a chain of s*** houses, this one cost me €1.60 to have a s****!
Went past the place where Diana died in the tunnel, one can see it was mot really built for traffic, let alone 180 kph, it curves around and goes down quite steeply.
I don't feel safe here, like in London and I guess Rome will be the same.....
I want all the grandchildren to learn some type of self defence.
