Well, big day coming up......
First stop......Eiffel Tower.....wow we are actually here!
Fortunately we do not have to queue with THEM as our tour guide refers to those standing in long queues.
Straight in and up the lift........great view......such an impressive structure, although Parisians did not exactly embrace it when it was built.......I must admit it does stand out admist the beautiful architecture.
I stand corrected regarding the highrise situation in Paris.....they do have some but fortunately they stuck them way over there......the business centre apparently.
Had our city tour of Paris.....learnt that there are 83 museums in Paris, drove past the second hand bookstalls along the river ( in the green boxes attached to the walls of the walkway) apparently they only open in fine weather.....weren't we lucky!
The weather has been lovely today, overcast but warmer. Time to shake the colds.
We chose to be dropped off at Concorde Square. Today is VE Day not a bank holiday as our knowledgeable tour guide told us.....lots happening and the Champs Elysees was closed to traffic this am. We decided to walk through the beautiful park.....so lovely, up to the Louvre (didnt go in as we are going there tomorrow), then wandered the shops and had lunch in a cute sidewalk cafe.
Decided to check out a couple of souvenier shops and heard a familar voice behind us.........wow betide it was Denise Mitchell.....friend of ours from Treetops days....she lives in Robina and was the wife of our friend Bob who died with a brain tumor.....I know it is a small world but that is ridiculous!
Walked back and right up the Champ Elysees to the Arc De Triomphe....loved it.
Headed back to the hotel via Palace of Chaillot.....across the Seine River and back to the hotel. Lots of walking but relatively easy as it is so flat......like €1 for every mile we have walked this holiday!
Paris appears to be very 'laid back' - totally different pace to London - probably not in the business end of town however.
Another thing......Londoners and Parisians have great taste.....there are literally heaps of minis.......Baby Erd would love it here!
Most cars are small cars, lots of Hybrids and we haven't seen a 4WD (why would you need one, there are no hills!)
Back to 'tissy up' for the Moulin Rouge'.
Wow, that has to be the best cabaret show we have experienced!! extraordinarily fit young men and women.
Defintely not offenive the nudity, very tastefully done. Cute shetland ponies, snake wrestling, fantastic night..... We have experienced cabaret nights many years ago in Sydney in 70's but never this wonderful. This is Paris!!!!
We are now sitting under the Eiffel Tower, at the hotel, on a perfect spring night waiting for the Tower to perform. Spectacular sight!! Wow so pretty!!
Perfect finish to a perfect day.
Roger's added thoughts on the day.......
They have a bridge called the 'lock bridge' here in Paris.....lovers get a padlock and lock it to the side of bridge (wire), kiss each other and throw the jey into the water, to lock their love together forever. Romantic.
Eiffel Tower built in 1897, has 740 steps to the second floor. We took the lift...great view.
Paris is a beautiful city, lots of green parks and well looked after trees...very clean.
The Moulin Rouge.....really good, best show I have seen....full on.
We walked back from the city just to enjoy it.....well worth it.
Watched the Eiffel Tower from the hotel, do it's flicker trick at midnight. Beautiful. To think that back in 1928 some d*** head politician wanted to pull it down.
