Hello everyone!
We have been on the road all week in the Northern Territory Outback and it has been absolutely amazing!
Day 1: 2nd Feb we headed out to the outback. The group are all really nice. 2 of which are from Fleet. Yes Fleet, 5 miles from Yateley! We had a river boat cruise down a river I have forgotten the name of... but it was great as they coax crocs up and out of the water. If my camera wasn't broken I wld put a pic up, but for some reason the memory card isn't working - aargh!
We then went onto Kakadu National Park where Aborigonies have lived for over 20,000 years, up until their land was threated by westernisation. Australians don't see why they should bother hunting for food when there are supermarkets. I feel sdaaened that they are restricted on how they can live their lives,. Their life ethos if very primitive. They believe we belong to the erathm, not that we own it and should take take take, like we do in the western world. Their lands are protected though and are mostly National Parks. We went through a town called Katherine. The aborigonies were mainly sat on street corners looking very bored :-(
Accomodation has been basic camping - Ruseel our tour guide is brilliant and the food is fab... and I am enjoying cmaping. Yes you read that right. despite the bugs, nocturnal insect and birds that do not shut up, frogs and toads down toiltes and LOADS of spiders, I haven't once thought about abondining it and coming home. All I can put it down to is the weather. If it was freezing cold I wldn't be this cheerful. However I am burnt already!
Its hard not having access to the internet as I am trying to think back to what we have done each day and I can't rememeber - However, what I have seen is amazing, the rest of the group are a great laugh and I am having a brilliant time!
Flying down to Alice Springs tomorrow for about 4 days to start the Ayres rock trip - and 4am starts!!! It will be remote but will try and update when I can!
xx
