We set the alarm to wake us up at 8.30am. We then grabbed our stuff and went to a '7 eleven shop' to get some snacks for the boat journey to Koh Lanta. Helen rested in the air conditioned lower deck whilst Jay was mingling with the boat crew. He was invited to go into the Captain's deck. The boat journey was not very long, approximately one hour from Koh Phi Phi.
The entrance into Koh Lanta was beautiful. A friendly Thai guy spotted us getting off the boat and offered us a beach resort with our own private bungalow, hot water, fridge, a free ride there from the port and best of all a sea view swimming pool by the sea! All of this for only 2000 THB (£40) in total for three nights stay! When we arrived at the resort we were very pleased with what we saw. We later discovered that they have free wifi which was a bonus!
We relaxed around our sea view pool which was a few steps from our bungalow. We had something to eat at the resort restaurant. Jay had chicken spring rolls which was the best spring rolls he has had outside Helen's parents' house. Helen had a tuna burger with fries. The food was tasty.
Jay sustained the second injury of the trip, he managed to cut his hand on the side of the pool. Nothing major just a bit of blood.
We had a shower after swimming in our pool then got ready for dinner. We were recommended by the resort owner Neung to go to 'The Meeting Point' restaurant which was a family run restaurant. It was only a few minutes walk to get to from our accommodation. On our way to the restaurant, we dropped off our dirty clothes at the laundrette to be washed.
For dinner Jay had a massaman chicken curry (chef's/the mum's speciality) and Helen had a Penang shrimp curry. They were delicious and we could tell that this was authentic home cooked food. We shared a plate of steamed rice with our curry which was moist and tasty. We were served by a friendly Finnish lady called Mary,
who was helping the family out because half of them went to Krabi. She recommended us to go to 'New Beach' for beach bars. Before we left we asked her
what she recommends for a Thai breakfast, she recommended rice soup.
When walking along New Beach, we saw lots of black crabs scuttling around, they were about the same size as your hand. We went to the 'Sound Shack' bar, this
was a chilled out bar that was raised above the beach. They had mats laid on the floor with cushions to sit on. Jay had two large bottles of Chang and Helen had a
pineapple daiquiri. After ordering our drinks, one of the barman gave us Jenga to play. Our accommodation owner Neung spotted us and joined us. He was as high as a kite and was amusing to speak to. He had a bubbly personality and laughed alot. Helen taught him how to count in Cantonese and it was funny to listen to him. We
were both laughing with him as he joked around.
Later in the evening Helen noticed that she was being bitten badly by mosquitos and the bites were swelling up so we headed back to the room.
