We had our complimentary breakfast at 9am, we both had muesli with yoghurt and papaya. We hired out a scooter for 20 THB, this was a Yamaha 125 GT sport scooter. It was a lot faster than the other scooters we hired out, it was handy weaving in and out Chiang Mai traffic. We topped up 80 THB of petrol to get to the Tiger Kingdom. Whilst driving around the main ring road, we were pulled over by a Thai police officer who asked us for a Thai driving license. We pretended that we did not understand what he was talking about. Miraculously he let us off with only a warning instead of doing the usual thing and asking for a bribe. We eventually found our way to Mae Rim where the Tiger Kingdom was, (20-30 km away). When we got to the Tiger Kingdom we enquired about the baby cubs but they had matured so we decided to see the big tigers. We were given access to 'Sophia', she was approximately 16 months old. This is the oldest age that humans can interact with tigers before they become unpredictable. After the Tiger Kingdom, we scooted to the 'X Centre', Jay did the 'Jungle Bungy Jump' here for 2000 THB. The jump was 50m high with a bed of water beneath it. Jay was harnessed around his ankles, this was also where the bungy cord was attached. There were a number of safety checks that they needed to carry out before the jump, this included taking his weight. Jay was then escalated up the bungy crane, once Jay had reached the top of the crane he was very excited and eager to jump (Jay has bungy jumped several times before). Jay had to stand at the edge of the platform with his feet half off the edge. The views of the jungle and surrounding mountains were beautiful. When the jump master counted down from three, Jay jumped. He absolutely loved it as always, one of the best jumps he has done. After the jump, Jay was buzzing with adrenalin and he said to Helen that she should have a go as it was lots of fun. Whilst Jay was getting his T shirt, Helen was seriously considering to jump swell. After pondering over it for a good few minutes, Helen wanted to try one of the bungy vests to see if it fits her (they only had one size left). The vest fitted her and that was the turning point haha. The same safety procedures were followed as Jay's jump. Helen has done a bungy jump before in her home town, Northampton for Charity but it was nothing like this jump. The harness on Helen's previous jump was a body strap making her feel more restrained compared to the ankle strap which felt like there was hardly any support. Once Helen had reached the pinnacle of the bungy crane, her nerves and adrenalin kicked in, giving her sweaty palms and her heart was rapidly beating. The jump master asked Helen to stand at the very end of the platform with her toes hanging over the edge. He then explained to Helen exactly what she had to do. The jump master began to countdown for Helen to jump but she requested for a moment to breathe and build up her courage. A few seconds later, the jump master counted down again and this was when Helen leant over the edge and jumped. This was such an adrenalin rush, all of Helen's nerves were replaced with a feeling of extreme euphoria! Helen absolutely loved it and would definitely do it again without hesitation.
After our jumps, we were both really buzzing and celebrated with a couple of beers and a nice Thai lunch. We ate at the X Centre restaurant, Jay had crispy noodles with yellow curry and Helen had chicken noodle soup.
The day was scorching hot, 38 degrees centigrade, so by the time we got back to our guesthouse we were shattered from the heat and adrenalin rush. Because of this, we konked out for about 1.5 hours.
For dinner we went to 'Phil's Cafe', this was one of the worse meals we have had. The curry was so watery with hardly any flavour, Jay's curry was full of oil.
After a horrible meal, we treated ourselves to a nice dessert, Strawberry Cornetto from a 7 Eleven store. We later had celebratory drinks at the 'Thai 1 on bar and grill' bar restaurant. This was a great bar with a good atmosphere. Jay had a Leo beer and two Sangsom with coke and lime. Helen had a Rum Daiquiri and also a 'Zombie' cocktail. Both were very tasty. We also had a shot of Bailey's and Kahula. It was one of the bar tender's birthday, she gave us some ice cream cake, which was delicious. Later in the evening, Helen noticed more mosquito bites around her ankles, which was annoying, they must love her blood.
