We set the alarm to wake us up at 6.30am. Jay had a 'Swiss breakfast' at the hostel which consist of scrambled eggs, toast, fruit salad with muesli and yoghurt. Helen just had rice crackers as she was not too hungry.
We were so excited with the thought of seeing and trekking the Great Wall of China especially as the weather seems clear for it. The bus arrived at 7.30am to pick us up. Half way through the journey the bus crashed into the back of a car. It was a minor accident, we had to wait for the Police to arrive to take down the details of the crash. It was a frustrating wait as it took over 2 hours, we were getting impatient waiting and was getting worried that we might not be able to see the Great Wall today.
The accident was eventually sorted out and we arrived midday, as part of the tour package we had lunch there, there were lots of vegetables to eat.
After lunch, our small group was taken to the Great Wall by our tour guide to start our trek. When we got there, our tour guide gave us a brief overview of the history of the Great Wall, this was interesting to hear.
The views were stunning and breath taking, it was amazing to see one of the wonders of the world!
Helen was so excited trekking on the Great Wall, she slipped twice but did not get hurt. The rocks were really dusty and loose. There were some steep gradients to climb up. It got windier as we climbed higher. We were so lucky that the weather stayed clear and dry. We even had lots of sunshine! When we reached the end of our trek we stayed up there for a few minutes to take it all in and absorb the fantastic views.
After the amazing trek, we got back to our hostel at 7pm. We had dinner at the 'Duck Ju De' restaurant around the corner from our accomodation. We shared a portion of duck and also some duck spring rolls. It was very tasty, the skin was so crispy. The whole meal cost £6 each, which was a bargain!
