Day 3
This morning we woke up and it was raining - just mine and Rose's luck! First stop of the day was Monkey Mia. Fisrt off we cooked bacon and eggs on the barbie for breakfast, in the rain. Then it was time to see the dolphins, and least on girl on the trip Laura shared my excitment! Three wild familes of dolphins have been coming to the bay for over 60 years. They come in daily - sometimes up to three times. Once they come into the bay the wardens came out and stand in the sea with them, you are also allowed to wade into the sea as long as you don't touch the dolphins, because it destroys the protective mucus that surrounds their body, but it is ok if they touch you. The wardens then talk to you about the dolphins. The girl that was giving us the speech had a dolphin resting against her leg the whole time. They come in really close and roll onto their sides so they can see you. They are lighter and more grey in colour to what i imagined and are speckled on thier bellies. At the end of the talk its feeding time. Once someone has got the pelicans under control, the feeding comences. I got to feed a dolphin which made it worthwhile standing in the rain for 20 minutes. W had a short delay in leaving Monkey Mia as we had to sort out the emergency door buzzer, in the end the wire got cut!
Then it was on the road again to continue our journey north. As we were driving along we had 360 degree views of the land, sea and sky. Stopped at Shell Beach which is so called because it is made of shells! It managed to stop raining long enough for us to see it.
Early evening we hit our overnight stop of Coral Bay. We spent the evening in the bar at the backpackers praying for better weather.
And that was Day 3.
