Christmas and New Year in Thailand. Poem at the End....We've spent about 13 nights in the luxurious Haad Yao Resort in Koh Phangnan. Christmas was spent watching Home Alone on the T.V and opening each others little presents. We had breakfast on the beach, and went for a walk on the beach also. Luckily my chocolates and cards had got home in time as had Mikes cards and flowers to his family. We had Christmas dinner at an English Pub called the Mason Arms which looked totally out of place on the island of Ko Phangan! I had Turkey dinner with all the trimmings and Mike had Steak. We spent most of the night calling friends and family on Skype which we have only just descovered! 1p per minute bargain! We had a few drinks back at the hotel and hit the sack. Inbetween Christmas and New Year we just chilled. the weather hasnt been too good, very cloudy so cant sunbathe. We played vollyball, Mike went for a few runs, ate and read out books. Mikes just bought a Scottish book called filth and i'm going to attempt the very literate and large Shanteram. We hired the moped and expored the island. Its very hilly, not all the roads have been done yet, there is a school and lots of water falls. Tim came to the hotel with two girls and we prepared for New Year by going and stocking up on our vodka, face paint, water bottles, fruit etc! When New Year came Becky and her friends Rachael, Lucy and Izzy came round shortly after Tim, Jenna and Tory. We drank in our room and painted each others faces decided what to take and what to wear. Jackets on or off, camera would we lose? All things like that. Tim bought his iPod so we listened to Music. Mike tried to explain to us lot who the Ultimate Warrier was in Wrestling as he wanted his face painted like him but we didnt have the foggiest! So he drew the outline and Rachael filled in the colour. We went on the beach and threw the remaining paint all over us in one go and waited for Ben to pick us up to take us to the full Moon Party. He charged us 150baht each to get there, it is usually 200baht. But we were all crammed into the back of a pick up truck! It took about 1/2 an hour to get there from our resort, so we sang and drank on the way. We had to pay 100baht to get into the full moon party and went passed the police checks etc. It was absolutely rammed packed with pissed English. Havoc, mayhem etc. We fought out way to the beach all holding hands to not lose each other but as soon as we hit the beach we lost the girls straight away. Steph had been calling me so we decided to go and meet her. She had lost Andy her boyfriend and was very drunk as she had been drinking since 12.00. We bought her a bottle of water, some phone credit and helped her text and call Andy to meet him. It was useless though as none of our phones would text only call, and you couldnt hear what each other was saying because of the noise. New Year came and we still hadnt found him and were waiting in a place with no music as that is where they said they would meet. Not great. We finally found him and we left them to it as we wanted to go and find Tim who had left earlier on in a Tuk Tuk. Steph and Andy were going back to Krabi in an hour, I dont know why they were staying in Krabi as it was about 8 hours away by boat and bus? How strange? Plus there is nothing to do in Krabi just a small little town with no beach? Anyway once they had each other we said our goodbyes. By this time though Mike wanted to go home, wasnt really feeling in the mood and with all the texting, searching and panicking for Andy we had sobered up and were surrounded by rammed pissed people shouting and screaming. We got a taxi back and went and sat at the bar next to our hotel. Mike fell asleep next to me and I chatted to a few people at the bar and then we went to bed. I think it was around 6am when we went to bed although I dont know what we did until that time? I think I danced to one song and that was it! Hopefully when Mum and Catheryne come it will be better, everyone I spoke to had a good night so maybe it was just our misfortune that it didnt quite work out for us. I must have drank alot of vodka though as we took out about 8 water bottles (which Mike carrieds) filled with vodka and lemonade. I was thowing up as usuall from 10am til about 7pm at night on New Years day it was horrible I was so ill. It was nice to have such a nice hotel room and toilet though to be ill in. I dont know what I would have done if I was in one of those bamboo huts with no toilet seat or flush and the bathroom outside with a hose as a shower! I must have been sick all the bile in my stomach as it was green / yellow acidy foam towards the end..... oh did feel so ill. I must have been sick about 25 times every 15 minutes. I managed to eat some soup at about 9pm at night and then went to bed.On 3rd Jan we went to the port to go to Ko Tao but they kept telling us the boat was coming from 1.pm till 9pm at night, they would say its on its way another hour, then another hour then another hour until it was so dark they told us it was cancelled till 8.30am the next day! We quickly tried to find some accommodation and found one for 10 pounds which was nothing compared to where we were staying before but the same price, no hot water and right outside a boxing match and bar which kept us up all night. People can be so rude, shouting, screaming, singing right outside our door till 6 in the morning! We got up and went to the port and it started again, it will be here in an hour, then an hour past and it was another hour, we though sod this there going to lie to us again all day, so we changed our route and decided to try and get on the mainland and head for Bangkok. We went for Surratani for 400baht but spoke to 2 girls who only paid 320baht so they ripped us off as well! We are now waiting to go to Bankok but all the trains and buses are full. Plus in Surratani evreryone is giving us different prices to get there, its well dodgy here you can trust no-one, they just take your money off you and give you a fake ticket. Luckily we read that this place called Phantip Travel can be trusted as a tourist operater in the lonely planet book so we have booked there. Still altogether it has cost us 1050b to get to Bangkok from Ko Phangan and Tim went straight there for 650b! Gutted! What can you do though? We are walking around with loads of people asking us where we want to go and offering us prices but we dont trust anyone its horrible. Plus we stayed in a damp bed last night here and about 10 boys and girls started screaming and laughing and shouting in a room opposite us all night, the walls are so thin it was well loud. This guy came out and said he was going to call the police. I asked if they would keep it down a little but they didnt. So again we had no sleep last night. Off to Bangkok in a few hours. Tim has booked us in a hostel for 10 pounds per night which is expensive but thats Bangkok. I bet its mayhem there aswell as all trains, buses, boats, planes are full of people going to Bangkok eek! Ok hope to have some more positive travels soon! As a rough generalisation i have found that the West Coast of Thailand is much friendlier, nice weather and more picturesque. I definately prefer the Krabi Province over any (Phi Phi, Lanta, Raileh, Ton Sai).Thailand so Far...Thailand so far, what do we sayIts paradise in every wayThe bamboo huts are on the beachYou cant complain for 2 pounds eachTheir signature dish is called Pad ThaiFor only a pound we can see whyThe real fruit juice, the pancake stallsThe amazing natural waterfallsMai Thai Boxing is their sportring side sofas can be boughtLady boys and Thai HoesSong Sam buckets and fire showsThere's more mopeds here than there are carsAnd Bob Marley plays in all the barsThey use a broom and not a mopIts shoes off in every shopMushroom shakes & herbal smokesIsland hopping on longtail boatsTheir happy, eager, cheerful moodsTheir love for the King & spicy foodsThey treat you as their friend.... their peerThey all just seem so happy hereI wish England could be more like thisThailands a place I will soarly miss.
