Friday 24th October
Whilst recovering from Fraser we all had a drink in the hostel and went to bed drunk again. Then the next day we hired 50cc choppers and drove around Rainbow Beach. It was great we were going at up to 80 miles an hour and then went to watch the sunset go down. We were on the chopper trip with a Canadian guy I think he's called Andy who was on our noosa camp site. We treated ourselves to a chinese with a starter and everything that night oh what luxury we have here! We went to bed in our dorm stuffed. The guy who was in there was snoring really loudly though and everyone was getting really pissed off! This french girl who had a irish accent as she had been living with her Boyfriend in Ireland for 3 years was huffing and puffing but to no avail as the snores just got louder and louder. I think that you have to have a few drinks if you are staying in dorm rooms like ALL travellers. As it is your only way of sleeping! Luckily both nights we had sound people in our room. We met this Geezer from Berkshire who was 50 years old and was sound. He'd never stayed in a dorm before and he said he never will! Dingo's resort was so nice though I thought it was okay. Bit weired though leaving all your stuff in your bag in your room that anyone can access? I took all our tickets an money and stuff with me each day. The next day we got up at 6.30 to free pancakes and tea and coffee at the hostel again. We got picked up by a mini bus and got a ferry to Tin Can Bay to feed wild dolphins. It was free you just had to pay $18 for the ferry ride and mini bus. We picked up our bucket with one fish and 10 at a time we waded into the water at the 3 wild dolphins that swam right upto the beach to take the fish from our hands. How strange? You werent allowed to touch them though incase we infected them or passed on germs. They were all cut and damaged by propellers and nets. They have been coming there for 17 years after one came to the shore as he was badley injured to die. The volunteers helped the dolphin recover and he returned every day. Then he had babies and brought the babies to the shore aswell! They come at exactly the same time each morning! 8.00am. They can eat up to 70 kilos a day, but we are only allowed to give them 30kilos. When I got back to the hostel we checked out. Took our linen and put them in the baskets, got our deposits for our cuttlery and crockery and waited to get on the greyhound bus to take us to Agnus waters / 1770. Southern Cross is the hostel we are staying in and it is gorgeous! We've been here 2 nights and everyone says it is the best hostel in oz. Table tennis, snooker, nicest swimming pool, plenty of deck chairs, BBQ, hammocks, fussball table, bike hire only $5! They sell clothes and earings etc! Gorgeous living room and chill out area with free selection of DVDs for the flat screen. There is nothing to do in this town whatsoever I really dont know why people come here but the hostel is great! All travellers come to this town though i'm baffled? Anyway a great way to relax after Fraser. Me and Mike didnt wake up til 9.25 this morning the latest so far in oz! We are in a private room again which is $50 a night good price for oz. We cooked ourselves fish and veg last night and spag boll tonight. Tomorrow we are on an overnight coach to the party town of Airlie Beach, its supposed to be mayhem there. They say if you cant pull in Airlie beach then you have no balls! I asked Peter Pans (travel agent) Where the best and quietest hostel there is to stay in, she just laughed and said no-where is nice and no-where is quite. s***. So we thought we'd treat ourselves and book a nice little apartment for 2 nights. $120 a night it is. A double room in a hostel is $110! Very expensive! Cant wait though, it has a nice kitchen open plan, comfy leather couch, flat screen, sooooo excited after staying in grotty hostels with cockroaches and dirty cups and cuttlery! I'm going to be soooo appreciative when I get home. Just getting into the shower here is a worry, having to wear your flip flops and not dear touch the smelly curtain shower! The journey tomorrow is 10 hours! Plus we have to change coach once. Not looking forward to it. But as all the travellers say, you save a night on accommodation fees!
