Friday 13th August.
Ah Gosh not written a blog for a while! Okay so we went to Hornby Island and had a great time - we met two guys from Seattle who came over to Vancouver Island for a long weekend. They were called Rod*** and Aaron. We partied on the beach with them all day and night and spent a few days there. We also went to the Hornby Island festival and had a magic time. Very strange lots of hippys dancing freely to quite a good band! Mike lost his fave shorts on the island as we stuck them to the roof of the van and then sped off - we also lost our dingy that way - no more putting things on the roof!
Where did we go next? We spent a day in Victoria on Vancouver Island we went to a recommended Chinese which was sensational! Mike found out the name of the CD he wanted its a Canadian band called K-os. We then got the ferry back to Vancouver. There we had a walk down East Hasting St where all the homeless people congregate - there is a permenant ambulance or 3 on the st for all the crack addicts that overdose on a nightly basis - we got offered some but kindly refused! We had another Chinese in China Town again AWSOME! We went for a few beers that night and swiftly left the next morning as its so damn hard to park in Vancouver!
Next we ventured to Banff which took about 9 hours as we went down the highway the wrong way! We had lunch in Squamish which is about 30 minutes away from Whistler on this huge tree trunk bench the views were out of this world! We could have got to Banff that way but all the forest fires in BC are causing havoc and some Highways were closed. We slept in random places on the way like Revelstoke which was a cute little town. There is a strict fire ban in BC everywhere!
We arrived in Alberta and then to Banff which is on Alberta's edge - we were happy to find out that there is only 7% tax here contrary to the 12% devil tax on everything you purchase in bloody BC! We went on a job search the following day and found a job as 2 x house b****es erm sorry House Keeping at the High Country Inn. We were to start the next day. We went to go to the cinema that night only to find out were were 1 hour late - Alberta apparently has a different time zone than BC! Good job we found out as we were starting work the following morning. $10 an hour 15 rooms each to clean hours approx 9.00am - finish usually about 4.00pm - 5.30pm. We have worked 5 days in a row so far and are back again tomorrow we hate it! Well hates a strong word! They offered us staff accommodation at $8 a day however when we looked they were filthy and the staff that were living there were not very welcoming so we gave it a miss. We have got a residence pass for Banff and Lake Louise as you have to pay $10 a day to just to be in the town. We are still living in the van and have showers at the hotel pool every 3 days! So thats where we are at the moment. Looking forward to a day off tomorrow. I have just had an interview at La Senza and also have one lined up at Lush. Looking forward to doing some amazing walks in Banff on our days off!
PS the streets have really cool names here and are all named after animals such as Beaver St, Grizzly St, Squirrel St... you get my drift!
